Was in two minds as to whether to post this in TV or AH...feel free to move it mods.

Question to the lads really - How many of you watch tv soaps (Eastenders, Corrnation st, Home and Away etc)? If so which one?

    No I don't.

I watched home and away since I was a 5 but not the others. Might be passing through and see them on, the acting is too painful to watch (not that home and away actors are much good either):).

nor do I...Home and Away can be nice to watch now and again ;) but the rest....Theres a guy livin with me and he watches Eastenders and Corrnation st. I just think its a bit odd for a lad of 23 to be watching those programmes

I watch Eastenders (and Corry thanks to the Mrs.) and I'm 27. I love Eastenders! Watched H&A and Neighbours from the time they came on until the last couple of years.

so it aint a girls thing then? Anytime that Eastenders is on the tv in my place all I can see is crap acting, morbid sad scenes of run down London sitting rooms with no light and dark filthy wallpaper, with 50+ white haired women moaning and groaning...either that or balled headed guys gettin up to no good. Loada rubbish IMO

    We live together?? Damn :p

I do occasionally watch em, and could tell you most of what each storyline is about.

Afterwards I feel a bit dirty, so I go off and watch 3-4 episodes of Top Gear :D

Watching soaps is just a short step away from reading the likes of Hello and Ok magazines.

It's just wrong for any male to be remotely interested in these things.

Home and away and sometimes hollyoaks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,644 ✭✭✭✭nesf

It can be decided for you by others. Past flatmates were addicted to soaps and this meant I had to watch the bloody things. Thankfully, simu has zero interest in them and I now never have to watch them! :)

The closest thing to a soap in my life these days is Battlestar Gallactica or Nip Tuck.

I only watch Enders & H&A but my bf watches them all and he's 27 ! Ive gotten a bit into Hollyoaks now cuz of him, but the acting on all of them is a disgrace. Even so he follows them religiously lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭Mrs_Doyle

My Dad and brother pretend to hate them, but they could probably bring you up to date on any of the Eastenders or Corrie story lines, and whenever I read about a future storyline, and I am telling my Mam about it, they always hush up so they can have a sneaky listen.

I will sit with the GF while she watches Corrie but I cannot be in the same room when Fair City, Eastenders or Emmerdale is on. I stay in the kitchen.

Can't stand soaps and luckily enough the gf doesn't watch them either

If Im honest I would know prob 1/2 whats goin on in Corrie and Home and Away. Id know a few of the characters in Emerdale as well. WOuldnt sit down and watch them every day of the week or whenever they are on, but at least they are slightly watchable.

But I wouldnt have a clue about Eastenders (seems depressing), Hollyoaks(dont think Ive ever saw one episode of that), Brookside (never saw one of those) and I cannot stand Fair City (could act better myself).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭kevmy

Can't watch Fair City due to the fact that it's so bad, Eastenders is just depressing, Corrie is all right if your absolutely bored, never really watched hollyoaks or emmerdale.
The only ones I consider watching on any sort of medium term basis are neighbours or H&A just cause they don't take themselves seriously and the women are generally hotter. However if I had something to do like go to college or make the dinner or farmwork I wouldn't bother meself TBH

I watch Eastenders now and again a habbit from years ago.

    Emmerdale - Debbie Dingle

what about the blonde girl that was with Dunne the soccer player (married to Andy on Emerdale), and the black haired girl that was on that celeb popstar program last year. Surely the best on that show no? Dont know Debbie Dingle gotta say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,588 ✭✭✭Bluetonic

    Hollyoaks - Gemma Atkinson

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemma_Atkinson
    Personal life

After dating former Emmerdale star Cleveland Campbell[citation needed], some rumours state that Atkinson presently shares her Cheshire home with Charlton Athletic striker Marcus Bent. Bent broke off his engagement to fiancee Kelly Clark - mother of his two-year-old daughter - after meeting Gemma at a party just months before a planned wedding[3].

Atkinson and Bent are regular on the Manchester club scene, with numerous tabloid recorded rows over her drinking[4]. Her latest fling has been with Noel Edmonds.

    :D

Never watch any soaps, don't understand the appeal of them at all. But then I don't watch a great deal of regular television anyway TBH. Even if there is something on like a documentary that I want to see I always forget to watch it. Any programs I really like I tend to download or buy on dvd, otherwise I'd never see them.

I only watch Home&Away, can't stand any of the English ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,050 ✭✭✭gazzer

I really like Emmerdale.. I think it is a very well written show.. just the right amount of humour and drama.

I watch Home and Away if I am home from work in time.. I have a sort of loyalty to it as I still remember watching the first episode. (sadser alert: I have a photo of me standing outside Summber Bay surf club.. my mother told all her friends that I went to Summer Bay when I was in Oz.

If there is a good storyline (like last week with martin and Sonia) I watch Eastenders.. mostly i dont though.

Also like Holby City and Casualty(are they classified as a soap??)

I cant believe how many guys watch this rubbish :o, come on lads, perhaps a young teen but not someone in there twenties for heaven sake.

Nah, situational drama. No shame in that!

For me living in Canada, I try to watch as much television as I can from back home, but unfortunately that's only a couple of shows. American television is ****e. Before I moved here, I had moved on from the soaps I watched in my teens (Corrie, Eastenders) and I had only picked them up originally from my ma watching them all the time. Now I try to watch Coronation Street all the time. I really don't see the problem with a guy watching these shows.

Seeing as my first born has started Gaelscoil recently, myself and herself have started to get into Ros Na Run on TG4. Now I've just discovered Adharc Fada also which, being the proper Ulster Gaelige, I can at least understand.

The lead-in in Coronation St. makes me depressed as does Eastenders. Why can't all soaps be like Dream Team and Footballers wives - full of hot-chicks? Why do we need soaps to attempt to be realistic when we watch them only to escape realism....?

    Nope, not a soap fan.

    Poll?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

    No freakin' way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,212 ✭✭✭✭Tom Dunne

    Poll?

    Yes, I think so.

OT: Does anyone notice how the "actors" when interviewed are no different from their on-screen personas? They are just as chav-ey in real life. No wonder most of them can't get real acting jobs.
