Well I finished Zelda on Friday, just haven't had a chance to post it until now.
Still have some side quests to do but other than that I'm done.
Great game I have to say.I still can't really decide whether it tops OOT, in some ways it does and in some ways it doesn't.I have a few more golden bugs to go yet.Did everyone here who got them search online for their locations?
I have no plans to and my motive to asking that question was basically to know how hard it is going to be for me.

If you haven't finished the game then don't read this:
The way you beat Gannon really reminded me of the Wind Waker.
Just the whole Zelda shooting at him with the light arrows and the actual sword fight between you and him.

    Good stuff.

I found all but 2 bugs and I didn't use a walkthrough. They are pretty easy to find since you can here them from some distance. They also come in pairs that are located very close to each other, mostly in the same area, one of which is usually quite easy to find so you know the other is quite close.

I gave in and used the IGN bug guide for the last 3 bugs I had to get, but am gonna keep on going looking for the last 20 heart containers myself.

Nowhere near finished. I'm only on the mines!!! I think I need to prioritise my games and get at least one finished:rolleyes:

The dayfly bug's in the desert gave me a headache... you can't even see them in the day emot-argh.gif

I liked it the way the last battles were reminders of previous games battles... Wind Waker with the arrows, reflecting the energy bolts, a puppet boss (Zelda), the pig and then the normal sword fight. Awesomeness.

Just on the under water temple now, haven't used a walktrhough yet and hopefully I won't have to....

It's a good question though whether it's better than OOT - it's certainly a brilliant game but I don't think it excells much past OOT that I had hoped. That said it's the best game I've played in ages and I'm totally immersed. The controls feel very natural after a few hours and I can't imagine playing it using a standard pad.

    I think it's OOT x 20... It's a great game.

Just finished the desert temple yesterday.

Have only got about 10 bugs, but they seem easier than those damned ones from OOT.

There's just so much to do... spent about an hour playing the tilt game in the fishing hole, and only got to the 8th level

I am just finished the mines and think its awesome so i cant wait for more

OOT is the best game I have ever played so if some are saying this is better then I am one happy chappy

I was doubtful about the controll scheme but I can't imagine using a controller with the bow.

    loving this game

Yeah that was a right b'tard.
But I managed to do it without the internet. Luckily just general exploring netted me the male or female of all the bugs so I just had to go back to their area and net their counterpart.
Which in the dayfly case was difficult. Wandering around the desert for an hour doing nothing.

Haven't gone for them yet, can you find them at night?
And how close/far is the male/female from the other?

They are always in the same area. For example, if you find a female bug in the field to the east of Castle Town, the male will be in the field to the east of castle town. In general, if you go past a loading screen, you've gone too far off.
Edit : and Im pretty sure all can be found day / night, although occasionally its easier to hunt at night due to the purty glowing in the dark effect.

Not exactly true. While this is true for many of the bugs there are a few that can be found seperated by a loading screen. Usually this happens if one bug is found in a relatively small area.

I managed to find the dayflies easily. I just stumbled across both the first time I got to the desert :)

I just got around to finishing it last night. Didn't get a chance to play it for over two weeks so the last dungeons drove me nuts as I'd forgotten what items were used on what objects and they're a huge mix up of all the different items you've collected.

    Lovely ending though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Yeah I loved the ending. :)

As regards the bugs, I would NEVER have found the second snail without a guide!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

Oh GREAT! I have five to go and that snail is one of them!!!:D
    But no, I won't cheat!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Yeah, one of the snails is really easy to find, the other is well bloody hidden...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭joe_chicken

    Hmmm.... That's strange!

I think I have two pairs of bugs so far, and one of them is the snails :)

Anyone else think that hyrule castle was ridiculously easy? it took me like 10 minutes to get to ganondorf

    [*spoiler]Place your spoiler here[/*spoiler]

Just remove the *'s and you're set.

    But yeh,
I don't think they wanted Hyrule Castle to be a dungeon at all (people have to live there after all), just a little bit of build-up before the last boss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I don't know how you did it in 10 minutes. It took me a good while to find my way into the graveyard.

But it was a sort of bonus level really as we'd already played through the 8 proper dungeons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Graveyard? I didn't go into a graveyard at Hyrule Castle...
Just beat the big hammer guy for the third time and went into the castle.

Anyone else find those chandelier things annoying to target?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Oh... well I just can't leave a big empty space on the map. I just had to work my way in there... I think compass was located in the graveyard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Now that I think on it, I think that Midna said something about "other side of that wall"... I thought that was the external wall so just carried on...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 81 ✭✭Nilther

if you went left as you came into the castle you got the map etc if you went right you got the key and it was just a simple case of walking through the inside of the castle from there.

Yep. But there is a big graveyard at the back of the castle where you get the compass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

I went left and couldnt figure out how to open the gate
looking at the pillars i thought i was supposed to spin them with the boomerang or something
so I went right and flew through the castle
yep the chandeleers was annoying alright to hookshot onto
I got to ganondorf fairly fast but found the horse back battle fairly annoying

I dont remember any graveyard...I did get the compass but for the life of me I can't remember were, i thought it was somewere in the castle...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

so i finally decided to start playing this again yesterday. I got bored with the water temple before Christmas and game up but i have put in eight hours over the last two days and I am in the
arbiters grounds very near the end of the dungeon I think

Is there a lot more to go? there damn well better be another 4 or 5 dungeons. Love it though.

Oh and lads.... spoiler tags. Monkeyfudge im looking at you :p

oh yea ive played 22 hours so far

ha... you're reading a thread called 'finished it'... probably not a good idea to read unless you've finished it too.

    just at the
    city in the sky
. Loving it more and more. only thing is so far there doesnt seem to be any motive for anything happening. its all very up in the air.

I found towards the end that not enough happens in between dungeons.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,400 ✭✭✭Vyse

I'm just at the desert section now. The game hasn't really grabbed my attention all that much. It's good but not great. Hopefully I'll get it finished in the next few weeks.

Agreed. The first 3 dungeons, and the bits between, are excellent.

After that it just feels like you're going from dungeon to dungeon, on autopilot.

I think they could have done more with the fishing in the main game... and with those 4 characters for each of the mirror temples...

I finished it a few days ago myself. I thought the ending was good.
Anyone else find the bosses a bit too easy?
Overall I'm very happy with the game but I still believe no game can touch Ocarina of Time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Yeah I agree Antamojo, the bosses, once you figure out their attack pattern and how to get them, were all quite easy, but the same can be said of OOT, Majoras Mask and WW too... I think that it's basically the way that when you lock on, it's automatically locked onto the weak spots that makes them a bit easier, and the attack/defend patterns that they use don't change much. I'd much rather if the bosses were a bit more difficult, possibly multi-stage bosses, where they adapt to defend themselves better or change their attack pattern after a few hits to their weak spot... That's what made the water temple boss and the last two bosses the best in the game, they changed their attack pattern a few times, which makes you have to constantly re-evaluate how best to attack them and defend against them.

Yeah I thought that the way you fight Zant by using all the different weapons obtained during the game was a good idea

    Antamojo wrote:

Yeah that was one of my favourite bosses in ages. Took me ages to cop on what was going on
And yeah the bits in between dungeons were brilliant for the first couple. even though I wasnt a big fan of collecting tears. I suppose throwing huge tangents in between the dungeons would slow down the pace a bit towards the end though, but you do have to wish for a little more. Yet we'd probably have been waiting til next Winter if they decided to put in any more.

Great game, just finished a few minutes ago, and I have to say, I'd bed Zelda but I'd be thinking of Midna!
But the bosses I found over all were ranked between too too easy like in Snowpeak or just easy like Zant, ah well.
As for there not being enough between dungeons, fair enough but lets not forget Zelda WW where you had endless sailing between dungeons as filler, that triforce map crap drove me demented, the wifes gin never stood a chance.

One thing I didnt get was that there was not really a need for the invincible rupee armour, i never used it once and completed the game, what's the story with that, did I miss something?
also i still have about 3 secret moves to find, most of them are not essential to progressing in the game, apart from the shield attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

None of them are essential to completing the game. Neither is the magic armour, and I've never even put it on myself, but I'd imagine it could be funny wearing it so you don't get hurt at all. I got it for the cave of ordeals, but never actually needed to use it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 404 ✭✭Antamojo

I think the secret moves are great, very effective.
I never used the magic armour either

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭thelordofcheese

finally finshed it there, great game.
i loved the boss of the arbiters grounds, second best boss in the game, after the gannon/gannondorf who has Marvel supervillan esque powers of just not dying. ever.
Probably a bit too easy, but still by far the best game i've played in the last 12 months.

As far as collectables go, the only thing i'm missing is the third bomb bag, and i never really bothered with the fishing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

Finally found the time to finish it this afternoon:)
Last 2 boss battles were great, but the 2 before that were appallingly easy...
I didn't lose any health on the giant spider, and only lost 2 hearts on the dragon.
Ganon's final form was a bit too easy, i just kept using the roll behind him and swing secret move and he barely managed to touch me... the rest of the battle was fantastic though!
And I'd definitely agree with CiDeRmAn - Midna turns into a tasty bit of stuff!:p
I'm gonna have to rethink my top 5 games of all time list now:)

Does anything happen after the end of the credits? left it sitting on the "The End" screen for a while but it didn't seem to respond to any button presses...
