I know this has been done, couldnt find it though on the search. But is there an english equivalent of boards?

Need to get some answers from an english perspective on a question I have.

    www.digitalspy.co.uk
This is the closest thing (that I know of) to boards. There was a thread on this towards the end of last year if you decide to try to search again. Digital Spy is quite good, not as diverse as this but good enough.

That Digital Spy is interesting, although I'm not sure about the Sports forum being sub-titled "for any non-media aspects of sport". As if you'd have to be weird to want to talk about non-media aspects of sport. I know it's a "Digital" site, still an all...

Or maybe a British student perspective? ;) There is a difference between students and people.

http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/index.php By far and away the most similar thing. However it's quite a tight knit community, with what feels like quite a lot less users than boards.ie. They all mostly have a huge amount of posts, 5000+, and most know each other pretty well. So it might feel a bit hard to break into, but they're a nice bunch once you get to know them.

They do regular meet-ups offline too (in London anyway). So it's useful if you're new in town, which I know the OP is considering.

    Students aren't people too?

The UK populationis probably too large to support one "boards" type service, you'll more than likely need to subscribe to several general interest services instead. uk.yahoo.com have some specialist groups that may be of interest.

Nice try but no, no they're not.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/ has an English flavour imo
