Right took my new Canon 350D out for a spin in the park and after 120 shots these are the ones I like the best. Still clueless about most of the settings and have to get a third party manual as I cannot speak French or Dutch as per my originals.

First one is clouds using a Polorised Filter.

Second one is of 3 swans in the mankiest pond I have ever seen.

Third one is a random one of a tree that I thought looked good.

I need to sort out one issue which is with getting shots into focus properly but starting a camera course at the end of the month in the Dublin Camera Club so hopefully that will help me with those issues.

The first one is my pick of the lot. However, I'd bring it a bit further in post processing, with a crop just where the ripples end, a b&w conversion and a little more gloom in it!

The clouds are great, but it's a shame they're not being framed by anything.

The last shot needs a bit more contrast to work for me.

I'm a member of Dublin Camera Club, will be up and about there soon, if you're around. The beginners course should help you a lot, and I'd advise you go to the judging of prints, so you get an idea of what makes and breaks a photograph!

    Your manual! Good luck!

Yeah the processing is a mystery to me. I did some very slight adjustments in Paint Shop Pro but really haven't a bog what I am doing with it bar brightening up something etc.

On the clouds one I do have some showing the treeline but they just don't look as good at that one imho.

My fav is actually the swans, they just look symetrical.

Ta for the manual I have a feeling Komplett are going to be knobs about sending an English one out, might see you at the club so :)

Did you get a copy of Photoshop Elements with the camera?

Naw Arcsoft Photo Studio came with it but I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and am thinking about upgrading to the latest version of it.

Ah right, whatever you're most comfortable with really.

Don't be afraid to play around with editing, even just to find out what different things do, rather than trying to get a perfect photograph!

The first one doesn't do anything for me but the second and third are very good with the last one being my favourite. Happy shooting!

Played around with Paint Shop Pro and edited the swans one.

Sorry, just noticed Fajitas got there WAY before me.

You show much promise, young grasshopper. :D

I like the swans, and tree shot, but the sky is meh, in truth. One good rule of thumb for animals is to get down low, at or below eye-level is prefect. Getting in close works great as well.

I like the first one, I can imagine it on the back of an album sleeve..something from the likes of Mike Oldfield...just my tuppence worth.

Well played around with it a little more last night and I reckon this version is more Mike Oldfield.

Have also done a B&W version of the swans as per Fajitas! instructions and it looks damn good. Will slap that up on Flickr tonight.

Starting to play with PSP, Paint.net and a eval of PSE so having lots of fun at the moment.
