Talk about timing - I just had a thread deleted from photography ireland for mentioning this one but here goes anyway -

    www.figuremodelsni.t83.net

Its a non profit site - they dont take any money from the models in way of a referral comission nor is there a joining fee for models unlike other sites. The models work up to artistic nude level - though (shock horror) they also model with their clothes on too.

Its a new site and so far the models are NI based - you would have to pay them petrol money too unless you wanted to use a studio up north (cheaper). They are working on a ROI section but dont have the numbers yet.

Yep the models from the north travel to the republic for work - so long as you pay their travel expenses. I have heard that as soon as they have 4 from the south they are opening the southern section of the site.

Surely there's an opportunity for some enterprising soul to set up a Southern Irish Model Database. As soon as you start bringing travel and food expenses into the equation things start getting very expensive.

A site like this doesn't need to focus on any one type of modelling and can include male and female models. Anyone interested?

I agree Dave, you wanna take the lead on this especially as you are in the "industry" and have the gear on site??

So long as its not for profit - doesnt take a cut out of the models wages and doesnt charge them to join and doesnt charge photographers to contact them - then why not. Thats what I prefer about the NI one - its not looking at dollar signs the whole time.

As long as its for the good of the industry then nothing wrong with that

Thanks Mike, I've been having a good think about this.

The problem is everone expects everything for free. That's not a very good business model. No-one is going to put a heap of time into doing this right if it's just a hobby. How do you cover the cost of hosting? Who pays for the advertising to bring attention to the site? What if you're busy earning a mortgage elswhere, does the site just die?

If the prevailing attidude is that the people who put the effort in to make it work should not be rewarded in any way (but the models and the photographers can all charge for their time) then maybe that's why there's nothing so far in this area.

    Well this one here
    http://www.figuremodelsni.t83.net/
(which is a side project put together by a professional model from antrim) does all that for free so I dont see why ROI cant have one that is also free.

Your basically talking about a site that lists profiles and members contact details - rather than a site that holds members contact details and takes a cut out the earnings of the people actually doing the work - ie the models.

Who said anything about taking a cut of people's earnings?

Whether you charge the photographer a fee for giving them the models email address - or - whether you charge the model to give them the photographers email address - it amounts to the same thing. Charging for something which doesnt require charging for. Taking a cut from other peoples work.

If people are making money out of using an online modelling service then it seems only fair that the people providing the service also make something ?

    Who pays is another question.

Share the wealth and good fortune :)

Try http://www.irishmodels.org/. They have a forum and model/photographer database.

qwertz, that link doesn't seem to work.

Maybe they've gone off to do their day job :):)

irish models.org and imapp.co.uk are the same site - and its free to join, post, contact and work with models if your a photographer and vice versa.

Mark - I still dont see why you think something that is currently free north of the border has to be a money making venture for the south. Luckily imapp and the other one (www.figuremodelsni.t83.net) have models that do work in the south - and imapp has many models who live in and work all across ireland without travelling expenses being incurred. The other sites posted before :

    http://www.assetsmodels.com/
    http://www.celtictalent.com/
    http://www.fordmodelseurope.com/

were modelling agencies with advertising companies among their clients - they dont cater as much for amateur photographers and are more geared to advertising and promotional work.

Its called a business opportunity. Not everyone provides services from the goodness of their heart, ehem ;)

Never said it has to be anything, was a question, same token doesn't have to be free.

Nothing wrong with paying a little to avail of a service which might lead to the model or photographer making some money :)

I'd disagree with you when you say (in effect) that theres nothing wrong with people in the republic paying for something that is free up north.

Well what I had said was something like 'you can call it a business opportunity - I would call it money grubbing. Or something along those lines ?

    Then I thought why bother.

    : )

I've been mulling over this for quite a while now and I've decided to take the plunge (thanks Mike!).

I've just set up 'Models in Ireland'. This site aims to provide a comprehensive listing of Male and Female Models, young and old who are available for booking by professional and amateur photographers all around Ireland.
The purpose is to promote models who wish to find photography work of a tasteful nature. No nudity or partial nudity will be accepted either in photos or in the listings, ever. This will be a site that your Grandmother will be happy to look at.

As many aspiring models don't have portfolios it will also have a listing of Photographers, area by area, so that local models can get in touch.

It's early days yet so the site is a bit sparse at the moment but pop on over to http://www.modelsinireland.com and have a look.
