I picked up a Sigma 105mm macro lens over Christmas and I am determined to make good use of it this weekend.

Is there any restrictions on taking photos in the Botanic Gardens? The last time I was there was some 30 years ago. Has anything changed :p

We were recommended to go there on some photo course recently so I think not. One of the glass houses has (I think) high humidity so we were also advised not to go in there with digital equipment).

Was down there during the summer with elven ,you should get some good shots.
We went into the banana glass house ,great for macro shots of the big green leaves .
But I'd say because it's cold at the moment ,if you went in there and came out ,you'd get serious condensation inside the camera. Not so bad in the summer because it's warmer.

One other thing. Are you allowed bring a tripod into the glasshouses?

I'm sure no one will say anything to you ,I wouldn't say it would be that busy.
Was looking into going to powerscourt myself soon ,I'm dying with a cold at the moment though.

only thing I'm aware of you can't bring in to a glasshouse is a "perambulator" (as noted on the signs). aka: a buggy. So unless you are mounting your camera on one of them, you'll be alright I'd imagine.

They have one glasshouse that has nice orchids. nice for the macros.

botanic gardens - top of my list for taking photos. Get there this time of the year, then go back to the same spots in the other seasons and see how much everything changes. magical place

oh, and do share what you produce !

    Ah, my spiritual home :D

Something different to see every few weeks. Did get a good bit of the old condensation when I was there in October mind you, going into the main steamy glasshouse. Not a good thing. Must get back up there soon in fact.

You're fine with camera gear and tripod etc, although I would try not to rile them up by getting in anyone's way though just to be on the safe side. The restriction on photography is basically that you aren't allowed to make any money from pictures you take there. Thank goodness I now have an excuse for not selling prints of all my shots!

    (my last lot of results)
