Norton AntiVirus or AVG

    Well lads,
I have both Norton Antivirus/Internet Securit and AVG Free Edition installed on my PC. Norton really slows the computer down and I have been told that AVG should do the job just as well in conjunction with Windows Firewall. Any ideas on this? Is it safe to uninstall Norton AV and continue solely with AVG?

    Thanks
    Pa

I've used AVG for years now and am still virus free. :) Do a quick search and you'll find a few threads on it.

I don't think you will get many votes for Norton around here. :) AVG will work fine when Norton is uninstalled. Pick up another firewall if you want also, there are plenty of free alternatives.

Well, I had Norton Internet Security for the past 3 years. Very costly and slow. Decided to switch to AVG Internet Security and I really like it! And it's cheaper than Norton and you get a 2 year license!

AVG Internet Security is the way to go if you want a proper Anti-Virus + Firewall (Anti-Spyware and Anti-Spam also included).

Drop Norton anyway because it is a waste of time, space and money. I wouldn't but my full trust in AVG but try Mcaffe or Zone Alarm

    Neither.

Get Avast or AntiVir if you want to do it on the cheap (along with something like Zonealarm and the various anti-spyware programmes out there). If you want to buy an AV programme then go for NOD32.

You aren't supposed to have more than one active antivirus installed anyway.

    I also recommend Antivir.

Windows firewall is not good either, it only only blocks incoming traffic, so you should check out a good firewall like Comodo or Zone alarm.

I have used all forms of Norton and McAfee for a number of years, but have just happily changed to AVG Internet Security. It has anti virus, anti spyware and firewall. I am delighted with it. The free edition of AVG will become unavailable and unsupported early this month, but I will be corrected on this info.

I Support about 40 home computers in houses with kids/teenagers, everything some are on broadband

I uninstall norton and mcaffee and install avg and all windows updates on every pc i work on, and never hear of the pc giving problems again, and the boot and work much faster

just make sure all your automatic updates are working, (avg and windows) and that the xp firewall is on

Using the windows firewall is a bad idea in my opinion. ZoneAlarm is the way to go!:D

Incorrect. The Free version 7.1 is simply being replaced by the free version of 7.5. You need to upgrade to the free version of 7.5.
