Analogue Synth equipment

G'day! I'm new to any form of boards so please forgive me for posing anything dumb.
I am moving to Ireland from the UK and have analogue synths. Is it worth my while bringing them, trying to join a band, experimenting at venues etc?
A colleague says to sell them in the UK but, if I bring them and were to give up the music (God forbid), is there a market for these things? There are Moogs, Rolands, Yams, Seq Ccts, Korgs and a 100m modular system. If repairs are needed, are there specialists? I'll be in the County Sligo area.
I don't wish to make you guys out to be isolated or anything insulting - it's just that I've not seen anything of the music scene in Ireland other than a couple of pub music nights - in little towns - and there were no electronic sounds at all. Coming from the Brighton area where there are hundreds of home studios, it will be a little quiet. Excellent for me to live and compose rather than decompose.
    Comments please ...

Dunno about that. There's a big enough scene I suppose but you've gotta be proactive to find it. Make sure to bring all your gear though, the more knob twiddlers emerging outside their bedrooms the better :D

excellent news. thanks for the fast response. I'll package the gear and bring it over. One or two need a service but the rest can create enough raw sounds to satisfy. Anyone know what the power supplies are like in the sticks? I used to practice on a farm and smoothing and noise were a huge problem at milking and hop-picking time. I think my first place to stay when I get over is going to be a bit like that. Pack some filters too ... or a UPS perhaps.

I reckon that needs local knowledge! :D

What sort of music is your bag?

    Mike.

The scenes pretty huge in Dublin but i doubt there'll be much of a crowd out in sligo to be honest.

I dunno what sort of luck you'll have getting those serviced. I don't know of any companies who would specialise in that, you might have more luck if you could find some random guy who fixes stuff like that as a hobby.

The power supplies out in the sticks are reliable but I don't know what the story is re. hum or interference. Best of luck with your move, let us know how it goes.

Your welcome is much appreciated, thankyou.
My music tastes? I'm getting on in years and have quite a range but bands wise, Amon Duul, Gong, Mercury Rev, Spacemtn, Dramarama, Powderfinger, Klaus Schultze, Eno, Phil Thornton, Radio Massacre International ... most stuff really.
Been listening online to an Aussie programme at www.abc.com.au/rn/quietspace that plays ambient electro. Some good experimental stuff out there in the world.
Worth a try if you have broadband.

Keep it live, hit raw nerves and above all, create!

    Welcome to boards!

In terms of a market for synths - 2nd hand stuff can be quite hard to shift at times - that 100m system I would certainly advise to sell in England before you move over, somewhere like www.soundonsound.com or www.vintagesynth.org (this is a fantastic site if you're an enthusiast with a healthy UK/Ireland membership) would be advisable. The Moogs (I'm going to presume something along the lines of a Rogue/Voyager) and the Korgs (MS10/MS20?) should be easy enough to shift if needs be. I know of no specialist in synth repair in Ireland - in fact, there's only 2 music shops I know of that have any sort of a synth section, and both of them are in Dublin. Post a gear list and some pics anyways.

Certainly there is a healthy band scene - but (from my own experience only)the electronic stuff would be limited more to techno/electro rather than as part of a band. This isn't to dissuade you though - if there isn't a scene then create one :)

Gear list to date (if memory serves me well...some are stored in the loft and not seen for some time):-
    Roland JX3p x 2. PG200 programmer x 2. SH09. SH1000. JD800. System 100m (10mod, 2 100m controllers, 1 system 700 controller).
Korg 700s. MS-10 x 2. Prophecy. Sequential Six Trak. Pro One. Yamaha CS5. Jen sx1000. Moog Prodigy. Various drumsynths, pads, outboard plus the mandatory softsynths. Turned down so many synths in the past (when they were cheaper) as space was limited and the kids were young. Oh for a time machine and a little cash!

i would say samplers and synths are more present than ever in the band scene, certainly in dublin anyway.

Brighton to Sligo...? now thats a sea change. good luck with it!

Id would say thats true alrite, a lot of bands using old analog synths for the the old sound and image- whilst any electro/techno live or not is rarely produced on anything other than software and midi controllers

    Welcome to sligo,

I have a studio in sligo (collooney if you know where that is :D )
The sceen in sligo isnt exactly big but there are a few producers and a good few dj's.

The club sceen is really bad (2 good  mainstream clubs if thats your cup of tea) but no decent underground/live music club or venue.

Ive been trying to set up a live dance oriented band for a few weeks now with no luck (i play drums and percussion & programming) but if you were interested that would be great.
I am meeting with a bass player this week actually.

Also if your looking for a collaboration on a few tracks that would be cool too.
    ill pm you my mobile.

    best of luck
    bryan

I've got about 5000 euros worth of analogue modular up on the adverts section for about 1500 euro for a quick sale and no bites.... doesn't seem to be many enthusiasts out here for this kit.
