Just back from a fantastic 2 weeks in Dubai the best city on the planet, some of the clubs there are amazing as Zascar who posts on here will verify he was also in Dubai same time as me but due to unforeseen circumstances we never got to meet up.

Seen Armand Van Helden @ http://www.trilogy.ae/ last week and he played a great set from what i can remember after consuming copious amounts of free champagne and vodka :D in the VIP Lounge.... also Zinc is a cracking club and Norman Jay played there last Friday, i was due to go but ended up with some bird and that put paid to that :o:D another bloke i know said it was a top nite.

Some of the clubs in Dubai are up there with the clubs in Ibiza especially Trilogy and Zinc is a cracking club as well as the http://www.peppermint-club.com/ and
http://www.jumeirahbeachhotel.com/dining/the_apartment/ is the business, while i was there i went to a Ministry Of Sound nite with DJ Jake Duval @ Zinc and it was a top nite, Paul Oakenfold was on NYE and there was a Hed Kandi nite as well, David Guetta was supposed to be on @ Trilogy but he pulled out but you'll never guess who took his place none other than http://www.trustthedj.com/ToddTerry/ i couldn't make that as i was dj'ing in my mates bar but the people i know who went said it was a great nite up to about 1.45 when he started playing too much progressive instead of funky and Trilogy is mostly a funky/electro house type of club.

http://www.jumeirahbeachhotel.com/dining/360_degrees/ is probably the nicest place in Dubai it's simply stunning, v expensive as you would imagine but seriously cool bar/club with cool tunes.

Dubai as a city is the best in the world id love to live there like my mate is but for clubbing as Zascar will confirm it rules if your going there buy Time Out Dubai for listings, there's always top dj's on in Dubai.

As Johnny said I am just back form there too. Savage place I would highly recommend it to anyone. Club scene is fantastic from the little I saw. But the gig guides were full of way more big dj's than you normally see in Ireland.

Trilogy is incredible. This is the view from the Rooftop bar.
The 360 Bar is fantastic too. Out at the end of a pier in the ocean.
This and this is your view. I paid €36 for a Corona and a glass of Champaigne, but it was well worth it. Most amazing view from a bar ever.

If you get a chance, just go!

Hey All, wanted to dig this thread back up again....

I'm off to Dubai again for a week in Novenber. Want to cram in as much as possible and do all the things I missed last time.

I'll look out for the clubs you mentioend above Johnnie - I want to triklogy already but I'll see what else is on and hopefully catch a big DJ if I can.

Anyone know any good sites that have listings?

    Hi Lads,

Sorry for dragging this up from the depths but im off to Dubai on Wednesday and I see that this Trilogy club is closed, anywhere else worth heading to?

@ Jonny68 - wheres your mates bar you were playing? Is it an Irish bar or something?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Go to the 360 Bar. its out at the end of a pier beside the Burj Al Arab, part of the complex of the hotel shaped like a wave, My favourite bar in the world.

Yeah an Irish bar called The Dubliners, my mate doesn't manage the bar anymore he's now making a lot more money selling real estate ;) but the bar in question he sued to manage is caleld The Dubliners and there's another Dublin lad who has taken over as manager, it's part of the Le Meridien Hotel beside Dubai Airport, and is definetly worth a visit.;)
    http://www.starwoodhotels.com/lemeridien/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1893

Damn i didn't know Trilogy was closed what a shame, you could also try Zinc
http://www.dubainightplanner.com/clients/zinc.htm decent club, has a few differnt nites on including MOS housesexy and Kinky Malinki.

as Zascar says 360 is defo worth a visit even for the stunning location, although it's not cheap (Dublin prices and above)

    Anymore info let me know.

Is he still locked up? What about that bloke too that had a tiny bit of hash stuck to his foot or something - free him too while you're at it! :pac:

Yeah who was that I can't remember? Caught in between his shoelace or something.
I went to the Dubai Arena to see (A big dj I can't remember the name of right now) - massive place, cranking, but odd vibe with no drugs. Saying that there we lots of people who looked off their heads, but who knows...

I would not take the risk anyway

    Yip,

Grooverider is still banged up, tell ya lads, ill be vetting the clothes of anything I have goin over there, wouldnt bring a sniff of blow with me, as a smoker id be fairly worried!

There is a drugs scene in Dubai bit it's VERY UNDERGROUND and your literally taking a massive risk taking anything, it's a known fact Dubai Police employ Western people as undercover at some events who are on the lookout for dealers and can spot people off their heads, even if your not in possession of anything if your tested and anything is found in the subsequent bloodtest you'll get done over it (as in jail)so it's really not worth it, funnily enough i rememebr talking to a girl from Cork there 2 years ago and she said some Arab gave her a few lines of sniff and it was seriously strong, some Arabs are probably the biggest drug fiends there although they wouldn't necessarily be suspected, ive heard the Russians and some Lebanese are involved in the narcotics trade there!!!

Remember folks, amazing city one of the best in the world and although very westernized it's still under Islamic Rule, and although some of the stuff might seem alien to western people you have to respect it's their country and their rules.;)

Dam right Jonny, its not worth 4 yrs in jail risk!

I do respect their law and of course will have to abide by it!!!

A week away from smokin will do me the power of good, ill miss my decks though!

    :D

I'm sure drinking cocktails by the pool surrounded by stunning bikini clad babes will more than make up for it;):D

Nothing amazing about it it's just shopping malls and sand, and hype. It's far too hot, you spend a fortune on taxis (the only option), and it's full of slimeballs. So if you like shopping malls and a 5hit human rights record then maybe it's for you.

It's fast becoming the most popular tourist destination in the world mate therefore id say your in the minority here.

And taxis in Dubai are dirt cheap compared to Dublin.

(and it's only too hot in the summer months June to August)

I started reading about the stuff going on over there a while ago, and I doubt I'd ever go there now.

Child slavery, Islamic law, a city gone crazy on decadence that would have made the Roman emperors feel guilty? Built on slave labour in what is essentially a monarchy.

I really hope Dubai does not become the centre of dance music in the world. Actually it'll never happen with their insane drug laws.

so we have to 'respect' Shariah law when it executes petty criminals? Or when it gives a man the right to kill his wife?

People can run their own country how they like? So we should not comment on anyone do anything once it's done in a different country?

your obviously getting Saudi Arabia confused with Dubai and ther UAE, no petty criminal has been executed in Dubai to the best of my knowledge, and i don't now how you think a man can kill his wife and get away scott free, madnes!!!!

Unless you've actually been there (i've been 5 times) your not really in a position to comment, nothing like that happens, sure laws are way over the top but it's still an Islamic country but very westernized.

Just sitting in my mates apartment online here and reading this, yes the place is hot and im sure their laws can be a bit weird but its a muslim country so its expected!

Sure my mate is driving over here and she was tellin me if you run over a resident (from here) you have to pay a camel for it, which cost bout 250k

Whereas if you run an indian over over here you can get away with a few hundred quid, how mad is that!!!!

Its a beautiful place all the same!

was over there myself 4 years ago, **** that EVERYWHERE (I searched, believe me I searched) closes at 3........

we went in June, not a good time to go unless you really like to be baked.

But I will be honest we didn't know where to find the proper clubs at the time.
