Replacing a standard sky box with a SKY+

Friend of mine has a standard sky box (Pace) that has gone to sky heaven (if there is such a place)....

I have an old Sky+ box that I've replaced with an HD box, could I give him my box & he get his card paired to that one instead ? - would he be able to use the record functionality ?? - would sky insist on an extra payment ??

    Thanks

    Andi

    hi andi,

they should be able to use the box on their current card but just as a sky box not + they will need to get an extra cable to the dish I/O and subs to prem channel too use the sky+

Yup, Sky+ box will work as a standard Sky box if card is just re-paired to it.

Sky+ features are €15 per month, or free if you subscribe to 2 or more Premium Channels (eg Sky Sports 1 + 2).

Byte , my understanding of Sky+ was that it allowed you to view the feed from one LNB while the SKY+ Box recorded the feed from a second LNB to its Hard Drive. Therefore if you swapped an origonal SKY box with a SKY + box ( + fitted additional LNB,cable etc..) it should work should it not ?? . What control do SKY have over the recording function ??. It's already been posted on different threads that the phone link isn't required . Why pay the 15 euro per month ?

Uhm, ideally yes, the Sky+ box needs to be connected to a Quad LNB and using 2 feeds.

If only one sat cable is connected, it'll only work as a standard Skybox. If Sky+ features are enabled, then you'd only be able to record what you're watching or record a planned recording as long as box is in standby. Not ideal.

Sky have FULL control over the Sky+ recording feature. If you stopped paying the €15 per month (the fee is waived if you have 2 or more Premium channels), then the recording features will no longer work.
