Next question

On the application form they ask me to send in my old passport for cancellation. What are the chances of them sending it back? Should I just claim it was stolen and hope to find some gendarme who will sign a form to that effect?

They do send back the old passport. Not sending it in would probably slow things down a lot.

It comes back with the bottom corners chopped off and big cancelled stamps on it though ya?!!

They chop the corner's off the bottom of your old passport so it cant be reused they send it back with your new one.

It's €75 for a passport but you have to pay €7 for passport express (you get the passport In 10 working days) you pay that in the post office.
