I'm having a problem with a tevion MP3 player which my PC (Windows XP) will not recognise.
There are 6 USB ports and 4 are currently in use, all working fine.
Getting a message 'not recognised' when i plug in the MP3.
I tried it on another PC with Windows XP and it works fine.
I've tried the troubleshooter on the pc without success.
    Anybody got any ideas???

Do you know if its Windows XP Service Pack 2? Try powering off your computer, plug it out of the wall and then restart your machine. See if that works, just an idea I found on google.

    Thank,s guys for the help.
My pc ix XP service pack2, and the MP3 does not require a driver.
I have tried your advise re unplugging the pc but still no joy......
    Any other ideas????

When you plug it in you get a not recognised message? Then the usb is OK. XP contains native drivers for most MP3 players, and it works on another XP machine, so, is your XP OK? Is it that there's a firewall blocking it? Unlikely but not unknown, or is there something in disk management that needs enabling - does it show up there as an unenabled drive?

One other thought. There may not be enough voltage at the usb port (is is a front one?), so try plugging it into one of the ones in use for something else.

    Thank's for your reply.
I have tried all the ports without success, although i know they do work.
I am using the front ports for the MP3, but they work with other devices.
The device is shown in device properties as 'unknown device' with a message 'no drivers are installed for this device', although it does not require one.
When i click on 'driver details' message says no drivers are required or loaded for device....???
My pc skills are quite limited so excuse my questions...

Remove the Unknown Device and restart, then plug in the MP3 player again.

Try booting an email off to these guys. I believe they are the same company.

Is it from Aldi? If so you are not alone

I'm considering a gallon of petrol at the moment......or a lie down in a drakened room.............
Thanks a lot for your help...................i'll try the back ports and leave it at that for tonight...........

Hmm, while you removing the devices you could remove the Universal Serial Bus Controllers - may be worth a shot.
If that not the problem, you sure you not using a USB extension cable from the USB port to the Device's port? if so try connecting the device directly instad of the extension cable

I have very same MP3 player and just connected it for the first time after seeing this thread. I also have exact same problem. Screen on players shows ZZZ (waiting connection between PC and player). I tried plugging into USB hub and get message hub has not enough power. Then plug into front port on PC and get Unknown Device message. User manual refers to www.fascin8.co.uk for info on FD-160 MP3 player. No useful help there either.

Ye try a firmware update though this is unlikely to work if the PC can't even detect it.

OP I find it strange that the player worked on one PC and not on another. I have sent an email to Tech Support at fascin8.co.uk, but have not received a reply yet. When/if I hear back I will post here. I suggest you contact them too to let them know that this isnt an isolated situation. www.fascin8.co.uk

I just tried it with a different USB cable that I got with a camera and it works now. Seems they might have given a bad cable.

I have emailed the tech gyus in the owners manual too and am awaiting a reply. If it is the cable why then did mine work on another pc?
Very strange, but i may try to source one and try it..........

Unsurprisingly the email I sent to the manufacturers has not been replied to, despite their promise of a reply within 24 hours. Another bunch of muppets...
There are far to many sites offering technical support who fail to actually do so.

Some of the system files might be damaged.

Try it in another pc. if it works in that pc,see what drivers are being used in
the device manager. copy those system files and use them to replace the system files in your pc.

Keep a backup of your old system files.....just in case
