Translated form the actual site that the Digg article links to:
    Revealed: Wii demo as Download
Wii owners with Internet connection will be able themselves to download demo versions of Wii plays.

The assumption gave it already longer, now is official it: Apart from Virtual CONSOLE plays Wii fans with Internet entrance will be able to download also demo versions of Wii titles. This confirmed a speaker of Nintendo OF Europe opposite Games current. One can store the demos then either in 512 MT the large Flashspeicher of the console or on a separately available SD-map. Which demos make the beginning, Nintendo wants shortly admits to give.

    Tranlsation by Google

But .. put simpley, a Nintendo (Europe) speaker "confirmed" it. That doesnt really give a 100% official Nintendo or Game Developer/Publisher stance on it, but I suppose if it is true its a decent step in the right direction.

With only 512mb of flash memory on the console I do wonder what size the demo's will be. Most game demo's today are what, 250 -> 400 mb? Wii ones would not be more then 200mb I imagine as they dont need as much detail in textures etc. but still, space can fill very quickly.

Looks like Nintendy want us to go out and buy more SD cards.

Hmmm....I doubt if it'll be stored on the SD cards - that would really open up the possibility of Homebrew and Ripping of Discs if games could be played off the SD cards (even if they are only demos)

They may just be like the DS demos; it'll come on instantly and be gone once you reboot your machine... although that'd be a pain in the arse as far as multiple downloading goes, but it would solve any piracy concerns they may have.

The thing about demo's is that they really only want you to play the demo once and then buy the game if you like it so I imagine they might try that.

    It would be annoying.

psp demoes are around the 10mb mark iirc, so maybe they wont be as big as you may assume
