Progressive Scan?

I posted this already on the home entertainment displays forum:
Now I know it's hardly cutting edge, but I was given a gift of a 21' Philips CRT TV for my birthday, model: 21PT1557/05

Now what I was wondering would this TV support progressive scan through an RGB SCART cable? Or is it just capable of standard interlaced picture?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any help you can offer. smile.gif

Just wondering if any of you folks can shed any light on this, as to put it bluntly, a lot of you know your sh1t on the displays/cables front!!! ;)

Just wondering if it'll really be worthwhile forking over the extortionate amount they want for the RGB scart cable for my Wii!

RGB Scart does not support progressive scan.

However, it should offer an improved picture quality over composite.

It entirely depends on how anal you are about picture quality.

If you want a relatively small (but most likely noticeable) improvement in picture quality then go for it.

I doubt your TV can handle progressive scan (the vast vast vast majority of CRT TVs don't). Progressive Scan is really something for LCD or Plasma TV, mainly because they can't handle interlance signals at all (all interlance signals, like normal TV signals, are converted to progressive scan when they enter the LCD TV)

You also need Component Cable connections for a progressive scan connection, which your TV (based on the webpage) certainly doesn't have.

    So forget about progressive scan.

As REACTOR points out RGB over Scart will give to the best possible picture quality for your TV. But RGB won't do mircules. Your TV is not a high end CRT TV like a Sony 32" Vega or anything, so I don't know if you even notice much difference (or enough difference to justify the price of a RGB Scart cable). If you have the money then go for it, safe in the knowledge that you will at least know you have the best connection you can. But if you are happy enough with the picture as it is, and are relucant to spend the money, I would stick with what you have.

The only reason I wouldn't go for it myself is the fact that I need the composite cables to plug the left and right sound into my AUX on my Hi Fi.
Really cheap way of getting a small surround sound effect.:D
