unless old edgar is a complete muppet there is no sense in going all-in.
It looks as has a Q on the flops and he picked up the club draw on the turn and hit it on the river, but you gotta pay the 25.
If you reraise and he calls then he has you beat, unless he is a complete turkey.
If your read is turkey ready for plucking and basting then all-in , although I think u lose.

This is what happened, and at the time I thought it was what had happened, I still paid him off but it made me feel like a bit of a calling station.

I'd also bet more on the turn near pot but agree with the raise preflop. If he called pot sized bet on turn and club hit on river and he bets out as above i call.

Although you feel like a calling station you arent. Even though you suspect you are beat there are too many occasions when you are ahead here not to call.
I dont think you played the hand too badly. Some people might say you should have bet more on the turn, but percentage wise with that hand (let me know if I am wrong) I would say you will win more than lose with that kind of turn bet with that kind of hand.
