Do you know this cat!?

    Hi there,

I'm posting this for friends of mine who drove back to Dublin today from a new years weekend in Louisberg, Co. Mayo.

On the road back they stopped as they heard a few strange noises from the engine. The had a look under the bonnet but could see nothing. When they got back to Dublin they brought the car to a car wash - during which they heard some very strange noises. A local mechanic looked under the bonnet and after a bit of engine dismantlement, found a cat! The cat had been seen around the house they stayed in in Mayo so obviously climbed into the engine before they departed.

He is tired and hungry but unharmed. However, he is a long way from home, soooo having read a few tales of animals being reunited with their owners here, I thought I'd see if anyone has heard of a missing cat down near Louisberg.

Hes a ginger and white cat - pic attached.

We'll be contacting relevant ispca office/animal shelters in the morning but any info you might have would be greatly appreciated! He's miraculously survived four hours under the bonnet of a car so here's hoping for a happy ending!

wow ! that's mad. The poor cat must have been really stressed after a journey like that. Best of luck getting it sorted out.

    Wow, lucky cat!

Good on you for not just abandoning him to his own defences, I hope you manage to find his home.

thats unbelieveable he's 1 lucky cat:eek: ...similar happened with one of our cats a few years back but he journeyed only about two miles before we discovered him and he was fine too.....

some are not so lucky and can get caught in the fanbelt... They love the heat of the engine silly beggars.....

Can you get in touch with the house owners or perhaps send pic and details to a local shop and ask them to post it in the window...

    Good luck with lucky ginger!!!;)

Lucky ginger is doing well this morning after a good nights sleep. He's up on the www.lostandfound.ie site already. Have mailed the ispca so he'll be up there soon too. Will be in touch with the houseowner who'll hopefully know who owns it. Hopefully he's not a stray.

The 'Mayo News' news editor liked the story and said they'd put an article/picture of him in the paper in the next couple of days!

    Will keep you posted.

Amazingly, we have found the owner!!

We got in touch with Midwest Radio yesterday and they did a piece on the travelling cat this morning. A girl in Lecanvey near Louisburg heard the show and gave us a call. Descriptions matched and he's been photo identified now too.

"Tigger" went missing on Wednesday of last week. He has a history of climbing into car bonnets - furthest he travelled before though was to Castlebar. Cat and owner should be reunited over the weekend.

So alls well that ends well!

    Great story
Even if the owners won't consider this guy as an indoor cat - suggesy they collar and tag him .
Delighted he made his way home :p

Has nobody consider that this poor cat may have actually planned and executed a very daring and brilliant escape attempt only to be captured and sent back:D
