Canon D60 weird problem

    Hey lads,

I wonder has anyone come across this one.
Got the camera in a swap for a website, has been fine for the last few months (although I haven't had the chance to use it as much as I'd like).

There was the odd wee glitch, turn the power on, take a picture and the jpeg was half corrupted (ie the image was wrong colour and diagonal etc) but that would iron itself out after turning the camera on and off a few times.

But now when I power on the camera all that displays is "400" what appears to be the letters "iso" and the battery indicator. Then every 30 seconds or so it goes off then back to the same. Have tried just about eveything I can think of, dischargin batteries, recharging, using the mains, taking out the cmos and pressing every button imaginable on the thing.

I did the swap just in order to learn a good bit and take photos of art to make prints out of them. If you guys haven't come across this before can you point me to somewhere I could possibly get it repaired?

    Thanks for your time lads!

Reloaded the firmware on the camera, heres a link below follow the instructions this should resovle the issue, if not give canon in sandyford a ring and book it in for repair.

Will give it a go, but part of the problem is that the main LCD on the back displays nothing at all (maybe if I wipe the card externally and stick the firmware on it it might make a difference) it's completely blank the "400", "iSo" and the battery indicator are on the top LCD. Will keep you informed, cheers for the response.

Well digitalage, thank you! Now, the strangest thing, whilst I was reading the instuctions for re-doing the firmware and had the camera into the mains and plugged into the pc, it came alive! So just in the process of re-doing the firmware now. Thanks a million m8, mucho appreciated! :)

Well the camera is back functioning in all the right ways except for one major thing. Every photo is black! I mean every last one of them very strange indeed. no matter what setting I choose and the lens cap is most definitely off.. I've even taken the lens off to see and all seems to be firing ok... have put the firmware back to 1.0.2 and forward to 1.0.4 reloaded them and vice versa.. any ideas? Have attached one of the images.. all 123kb in size as well... pure weirdness...

Again thanks for the help :)

Definetly black alright could be a number of things is the shutter opening on the camera ie the mirror locking up when you take the shot. Can you see the images on the back of the camera preview lcd when taking the shot, if so maybe you have a problem with the compact falsh card itself. Try reformatting the card inside the camera thru the menu selection might solve the probelm or put in a new card and see if the problem persists.

hey m8, unfortunately it's not the cf card, i tried a different card and still all previews / thumbnails are black even tried capturing to the PC and the same. Will see about the mirror locking etc.. thanks..

    taking out the cmos

What does that entail? Never heard that one before, sorry if it is off topic but I'm curious

hey sol, what i mean by cmos is the battery in the bottom of the camera, the same kinda battery (or maybe it's slightly different in size) used to store the data in a pc motherboard ie cmos battery, when you want to reset a motherboard one way of doing it is to remove the battery, i assumed it was a similar situation on the camera.

btw digitalage tried every mode no luck on that front and mirror doesnt seem to lock up or anything suppose it'll have to be a canon repair ah well, sure if you think of anything else gimme a shout, thanks for all the help!
