Exchanging Irish licence for Candian licence and vice versa

Ok, this is a little complicated but bear with me...

I'm hoping to head to Toronto later this year on the Usit work visa and have to consider the possibility that I might need a car for work etc. At that stage I will have had my full Irish licence for just over 1 year. I am investigating getting a Canadian licence.

    http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/ExchangeOutProv.aspx

According to the above link I would be able to do a G1 road test immediately and would then be issued with a G2 licence with no restrictions.

My question is about surrendering my Irish licence: If I do this and I get a Canadian licence will I run into trouble when I get back to Ireland and need an Irish licence again?

From oasis.gov.ie I see that you cannot exchange a Canadian licence for an Irish one, would this mean that I'd have to take my irish test again?
