Canon Powershot s80

    Folks,

I'm looking to purchase a new digital camera and had my eye on the powershot s80 after talking with a guy who had one and was very happy with it. Thing is, I can't find it anywhere on the web, where I assume it would be available cheaper than in any camera shop. Does anyone know if it has hit Ireland, or indeed, Europe yet?

The reason I'm going for the s80 is that I may be returning to the freelance journalism world and it seems to take a reasonably publishable shot once it's not long range. It's also small enough to function as a personal camera. Any info or other recommendations gratefully accepted.

    Hi,

The s80 has been out since autumn 2005, and it seems that it has been fazed out by canon. i have one, and its a very good camera. Its hard to tell the difference between it and a DSLR and a budget lens. Now the only way to get them is from asia via ebay.

The only real alternative is a g7 or is3, but neither of these has the wide angle bright lens of the s80. I'd recommend the s80 for the wide lens alone.

I dont know if canon have any plans to release any new wide angle compacts. Get the s80 if you can.
