From reading those prices it looks like they have addressed the issue by making everyone else pay as much as us (more or less).

A quick look at those prices shows a 20% across the board increase (not on irish prices).

Does anyone know of any lenses that have actually decreased in price in Irish shops lately (aside from the 17-40L which seems to have decreased by about €100 in the last 2 months to now being €850.00 in berminghamcameras).

Did you read gbee's post? He's Irish and he seemed to think that those prices were better than what he could get locally.

Just as well I'm moving to the US :[

I did read his post and had a quick look at the prices - so it does look like they have increased the price for everyone else instead of decreasing the Irish price as an example

    EF 17-40 f/4 L was 649 -> now 789 -

they have increased the price of this by €130.00.

So the current irish retail price in berminghamcameras of €850 is within striking distance of the new canon list (if those figures are accurate) price of 789 - but still a lot higher than it previously was on - for example techdirekt.de or pixmania.de about 2 months ago.

A difference of €60 in the price of an L lens from a shop in ireland to the rest of europe is a big change - but still it looks like instead of our prices matching the rest of europe they have increased the rest of europe's prices.

Marvellous, Rip Off Ireland has become Rip Off Planet. Time to begin ranting in Canon's direction and/or jump ship to Nikon*?

Beginning to think that Nikon might be the way forward alright. It's pretty hard though after investing all of that money. Not only in Canon but in the water housing I got for my 20D as well.
    Grrr.

Can't open the linky here at work, but assuming it's RRP's.

German retail prices though haven't moved so far, still €580-630 for a 17-40L, as was last year.

I'm not 100% surprised they have increased prices elsewhere ...

I emailed Philip Brady at Canon on this today ... but I'd be surprised if he has anything to say for himself. Lets wait and see ...

Rymus ... you may as well unsticky the Canon pricing thread ... unless you see value in letting it continue for a little bit longer ...

    Good news for Nikon

it is indeed marvellous news for Nikon. Surely it'd be a great stab now if they lowered their pricing slightly...

I'll leave the thread stickied for a bit, until we get the official word from Canon.

    That's crazy :/

    Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS ~ €2000 in europe (new price)

    Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS - ~€1250 BHphotovideo
Return ticket to New York - €356

Save yourself €400 and get a trip to New York into the bargain.

€2k would be cheap. I've seen them for up to €2400/2500 in Irish shops

€2350 in Conns and I've just seen one for €1699 on ac-foto.

Would warehouse express be close to the alledged new canon-europe priceband?

I'm off to New York in two weeks' time (: If this price harmonisation goes ahead and customs clamps down on stuff sent from the far east, KEAphoto etc, we might have to start up some sort of boards lens buying club to make the most of members' trips to the states.

    That's...a very good idea!

Yarr, would have to think of a secure way of getting it done though, one guy going over to get 6 good lenses would be carrying a lot of other people's money. I know there's a core group of users here who would trust one another but for others... Well I know I wouldn't be too comfortable giving a four figure sum to a total stranger.

Should definitely be looked into though, the savings are just too great to ignore.

I think this is a brillant idea! To get over the problem of giving money to strangers there could be some method of registering. I know of a buyers group that has made significant saving on different products from coal to insurance and banking. Need to get some input from someone who has experience of something like this.

I'm sure discounts would be obtainable with group purchases too...

... if the idea is to buy in bulk from B&H or similar then you can save the state tax by shipping to another US state ... and picking up ...

Only issue I see is the fact that this is not the sort of thing "the man" likes to see ... someone could get arrested ... or at least have everyones gear confiscated ...

I still think we should let Canon know how we feel about this ... why don't you all write to Philip Brady at Canon Ireland to let him know how you feel ... and while your at it get in touch with any other camera clubs, pros, online forum members etc and encourage them to do the same ... they have to listen if enough people get involved ... but to be fair this would be difficult ... I'd say we need at least 1000 people before they start to take notice ...

... then again we could enlist help from forums and camera clubs across Europe ... why confine our selves to Ireland .... the power of the Net and all that ...
