    I want to be able to transfer files from the PC to the Xbox, streaming would be good but not necessary.

    Transferring is a pain in the ass TBH. Setup a fileshare on the PC with the media and map it on XBMC
    I know I need a wireless adaptor and there is an offical one available. I've read though that any wireless adaptor would work though.

    The Xbox doesnt have a USB port, per se, although the protocol is USB. In anycase, peripherals are not really supported through it. All you need is a wireless bridge. WiFi on one end, Ethernet on the other. Connect this to your wireless network, bang the LAN cable into the Xbox and enjoy. The DWL2000+ has worked well for me in the past and you could probably pick a used one up for 30-35 bills.
    Also do I have to have Windows MCE on my PC or is that only to use Extend on the 360?

    That depends on exactly what you want to do. For watching files that you have stored, no, you just neet to setup a fileshare and map XBMC to it. IE you could do with with Windoze 98 (not that you would want to!)

    IIRC ruggiebear setup somthong like this in the last couple of months, have a search of the board and you will find more info

    you will need

    usb adaptor
    one of the clear wire ethernet extenders
    usb dongle that has been moded to work with AR
    one copy of splinter cell, original or classic

    and a lot of software knowledge

    if your a beginner, bring it to someone or put a chip in

    Thanks for the replies.

    I was going to do it as a project but have decided against it now as I can't get the deal from Argos.

    Rather than having another console around the house I'm going to get a media player enclosure instead. Probably dosen't do nearly as much as XBMC but I have a spare HD sitting around.
