My uncle was in the Irish Merchant Navy (Irish shipping) - before collapse and tells us stories of great times he spent (between sailings) around places in Greystones and Dun Laoghaire. Talked non stop about the singing (and drinking) all night sessions in the pubs of the time.
Since we will be visiting in a few months, where and which pubs if any left, could we get a good pint of Guinness - and perhaps find a few of the old sailing crews?

I dunno about the Guinness, but "the 40 foot" pub (with a wonderful terrace for summer dining) and the yacht club in Dun Laoire are all pretty nice hangouts, good atmosphere, nice sea views and sailors a-plenty.

The yacht club holds sailing suppers that visiting sailors are encouraged to attend, and it's a good way for people like you to get to meet the sailing community, enquire at the clubhouse when you arrive. :)
