Hi guys Im looking for some feedback on the Fuji s2pro. It will be used for covering news stories. My budget for something like this was €1000 but I can get this for 700 inc lens. Is it worth buying or is there anything else within my budget worth considering.

I did see some negative feedback regarding file sizes for this camera.

Any feedback or guidance is appreciated.

Seems very expensive for an s2 to be honest. You arent far off D80 with kit lens money. Definately well within the 400D with kit lens, or get the 400D body only and buy whatever lens you want. Would a s/h canon 20D be inside the budget? I have no idea what they go for.

    D80 with 18-135mm kit lens --> http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=324382

Have a read of the reviews of the cameras then go and actually hold them and see which you like.

700 is a very expensive price for an S2 pro, you can pick one up on ebay for under 400 easily. It's going on 5 years old at this stage and that's very old for a DSLR. Spend the money on a modern camera instead, the 400D and the D80 are far superior to the S2 pro

Ok I think the hands down winner for quality and price would have to be the Pentax K10D
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxk10d/

It's just perfect for reportage jobs and this is why
    - Dust and weather sealed remember the news dose not stop for the weather.
    - Anti-Dust system in body just in case dust gets in when changing lenses
    - In body shake reduction
    - Compatible with ANY Pentax lenses produced EVER
    - Large resolution 10mp
    - 16 segment metering system
    - 11 Point auto focus
    - Large 2.5" LCD Screen

You can pick them up right now new in stores for €999 with a standard zoom lens DA 18-55mm.

    Seb.

On the downside, there is a very small selection of new pentax lenses available, with a large portion of them being primes, and very little telephoto. Surely the OP needs telephoto for his/her objective?

bp_me is right when you buy a new dslr your are buying into a system. Nikon and Canon having the largest selection of lenses and accessories, it would be wiser to buy one of these brands as there is also a bigger secondhand market for lenses etc.

Here is a Nikon with the 18-135mm lens and some extras for under €1,000

So tempted to take the plunge and buy one of these myself...

The same seller has the 18-200VR kitted with the D80 for 1400 euro. Beyond the OP's budget, but not bad value for someone that wanted that lens.

Unless of course you got caught for import duties and VAT. Which, if it did happen, would make them more expensive than buying from someone like komplett.

Guys thanks for the help. Do customs check all packages coming in or do they pick and choose.

Depends on if your enterprising Hong Kong businessman is creative with his labelling of your package. So far almost all of us here have avoided that bullet.
