    Not Your Ornery Onager

Are you sure it's not '30 years from date of first registration' as opposed to 'legal on Jan 1 of (year of first registration + 30)' ?

Have you the original wheels for it? It should have Ghia wheels I think. I remember the black one in the James Bond film in 1976 and I thought it was the most beautiful car in the world......untill I drove one.:(

ghia wheels like these do you mean?

Aren't they Capri wheels? The wheels I mean are the type that were on the Granada and the Fiesta, the style obviously not the sizes. Yes I drove a 3.0S, it was quick enough in its day but the handling...that was another story. My grandfather used to work for Fords in Cork and would get the latest model Fords or demo models before they would go on the market so he would often have a Ford car that was never even on the market in Ireland but would be on show to the dealers.

well they are the wheelds that came with it but who knows when they joined the car. The S models wouldnt have had Ghia wheels as these were only on Ghia MK 4's as an option. S models in this part of the world had "sports" wheels. I was not aware there was ever a 3.0S in Ireland (2.0S yes, but even these were scarce) The 3.0S was a South Africa only model and mine COULD be the only one in the British Isles (there is rumour of another but noone can find it). There are several mk5 versions around (XR6). It seems there are less than a dozen (8 is the figure I hear 2.0S's left OTR in UK and only 2 2'3S's apparently; 2 of those 2.0S's are in NI)

Just shows how old I am getting - remember these cortinas when they first came out like it was yesterday (it was 1977 wasn't it?)

I recall being a bit dissapointed with the new boxy look as I was a great fan of the coke bottle Mk III.

All Cortinas look great generally but they were never very entertaining or even relaxing to drive - too much wallow and body roll for my liking and their fuel consumption was frightening. :)

PS - is that original registration (TKR) an Exeter one?

Maidstone Kent on my list which would tie in with being re-registered on arrival in UK possibly.(Dover or Folkstone maybe...)

I think a ZV plate wouldn't look too bad on it tbh, I really don't like the years on the plate. Or better still an original Irish one.;) :)

well thats your opinion......and MY opinion is that there are far too many ringed motors on Irish plates already.....about time the Customs and Excise clamped down on them all before they ruin the concessions we get for everyone.
