Hello, and happy new year... just wondering if there was anyone who could help me with my archos problem.....

it all worked fine untill my kids upgraded my windows media player to 11... i then rolled back to 10 but had to upgrade again due to the fact the WMP couldnt see the Archos.

now it still does not see it but i can see it using windows explorer, [im on XP] but when i try to move a file to the archos it stops responding after a few seconds and i cant use it.. i ahve searched everywhere for help and even updated teh firmware on the archos to no avail,

Thanks in advance for any help

I don't know why you are using wmp, its just as convenient to copy and paste, by clicking on the gmini in My Computer.
when i try to move a file to the archos it stops responding after a few seconds

    How old is it?

This is what happened to my gmini400 before the harddrive went in it. It wasn't even two weeks out of the 12 month warranty. Archos told me they would fix it for e250 plus shipping costs from France to Ireland. At the time Gmini400s were retailing at approximately e350, and the exact toshiba 20gb hardrive could be bought for $100 online.

I know of two other gmini400/402 owners whose harddrives went like mine around the 13 month mark. But as far as I know Archos now offer a two year warranty so request a RMA number on their website and ship it back to them if any further problems occur.

Do you mean it takes a long time to copy files to and from the gmini?

How big are the files you are transferring? A 60mb album should really take no longer than 30seconds to transfer over. A 2GB file might take 2-4minutes on USB2.

Is your pc port usb1 or 2? Usb2 is a lot quicker, if your pc is less than 3 years old its probably usb2.

The really long transfer times was probably the first sign of my gminis slow death. Then it took maybe 30seconds to play certain music files, and crashed.

Btw the archos website is overpriced compared to others online and sometimes the likes of pcworld.

No, the archos will conect the the pc all right, you see the red light on... but then after only a few seconds it will stop responding... and thats it! i can delete files on it with no problem, not so easy getting more back on...

What mode is the USB in ? Try changing to HD mode

BTW you can buy refurbished here anywhere from €100 - €150 ( http://stores.ebay.co.uk/LuzernTech_MP3-Players_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ16QQftidZ2QQtZkm) with a three month warranty

sorry i must be really stupid, i didnt know you could change the usb mode...
but as i said it does connect then the archos stops responding, i know its the archos and not the pc as it happens on windows explorer and media player.

i did go through the archos site and send them an email but nothing back from them today.
