Finger Amputation & Recuperation

    I'm writing a book in which the main character has blown two of his fingers off with a model rocket, and I need to do a little research... I'm having a hard time finding information on the internet about the recovery period after an amputation surgery.

    Does anyone have any links to helpful sites? Or perhaps can answer some of my questions:

    What would be the average recovery time from an amputation surgery? How much in the hospital and how much at home? How long before a teenager (14) could return to school? What about cleaning, dressing, and rehabilitation?

    Thanks for any help given...

    These days, finger amputation is at least partly curable with hormone treatment. I think it will only work above the last knuckle and is more successful the younger the person is.

    Many plastic surgeons are "very selective" about reimplanting single digits- results are often so disabling that the patient will request re-amputation.
