Does anyone know if one can get Sky HD without a phone line, does it have the same requirment as Sky+?

I only have a VOIP line and I NEED Sky HD. Is there any high street stores that resell the HD boxes and then just buy a subscription?

    Anyone any suggestions?

afaik you need a phone line for sky+ and for HD,
not sure if it would work with voip.

Sky will tell you, you need the phoneline connected for them to work, but thats untrue. However it may be part of their T&C on install to have a phoneline connected for 12 months.

If you are using Sky multi room, you will need a phoneline connected at all times

Does anyone know if you can buy a box separate and just set up a subscription?

yes. Sky like it too as it costs them less = instant profit.

Only to get it installed. If you buy the boxes elsewhere they won't enforce the Phone connection.

    VOIP:
:: Some not at all, esp 3rd party
:: Some erratically, will do well enough for Digibox.
:: Some very well. Some cable providers and Digiweb Metro as these use QOS managed VOIP only on their own network. Not 3rd party VOIP on Metro or cable.
:: Very unlikely on 3G/ HSPDA

Use Fax or dialup modem to test.

    Thanks Watty,
So there shouldn't be any problem with getting a box elsewhere and subscribing without a phone line?

On the VOIP issue - I always assumed the RJ connection in a Sky box was an onboard analogue modem, that why I assumed VOIP (no matter what medium it is being used over) just wouldn't work (conversion of signal etc)

    thanks again.

I have sky multiroom and use blueface to connect the boxes.....never had any trouble ordering films or matches through it. Once you have an ATA, it does all the signal converting.

Nice. I have a Blueface account too.

Although, you do know the Sky box will give you a certain amount of Games/Movies without getting a connection. It will allow X amount on credit before denying another. How many do you reckon you have ordered?
