    Al Salam Alaykom!

    Peace be upon you all!

Just wanted to wish you all a happy and blessed Eid Al-Adha God willing. Hoping that the coming year is a great one for you and your loved ones.

I've been pretty busy with stuff recently so that's why I haven't been replying to posts for this last while. Back now though (obviously :)).

    Happy Eid once again!

Just a quick question: whats "Eid"? Is it a new year thing, or something to do with a prophet (Jesus type scenario)? Wikipedia brings up two different meanings.

    Theres 2 Eid fesitvals:

Eid ul-Fitr and the current one Eid_ul-Adha.

This Wiki article has more info:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Adha

The whole thing relates Abhrahams (p.b.u.h) willingness to sacrifice his son when God commanded him. Both the Jews and Christians have basically the same story as well.

There are two Eids, this one is Eid al Adha which marks the sacrifice Abraham was going to make and also the end of the Hajj. The other is Eid al Fitr which marks the end of Ramadan.

Eid mubarak, Why is it that people do eid different days? Would it not be possible to do it the same day as hajj is on1 day so it should be the day after hajj.
we had our eid on Saturday but Pakistan's eid was today( monday)

You are correct about the difference with Pakistan (and Bangla Desh), this is because of moon visibility. The appearance of the new crescent over Pakistan signifying the beginning of the day is different to the boundary of the International date Line and thus the discrepancy. This year it was December 22nd, but most places were earlier.

Pakistanis in the home country therefore celebrated at a different time. I believe the arrival of the festival was split over 3 days worldwide!

    Whenever you celebrated... Eid mubarak!
