Just looking for a new bike (second hand) and want to know what my budget will get me...

Is there any kind of online price guide for second hand bikes? I know there's one for cars at cbg.ie but there doesn't seem to be a bike equilvalent...

It really depends on what you are looking for.

The buy and sell will give a good reference for the second hand private market.

As you mentioned CBG is a decent place to check second hand bikers from dealers.

What type of bike are you looking for?

    What is your budget?

I'm looking at a BMW F650 GS '03/'04 but the prices from dealers seem a bit high 7,500-8,000 when a new '07 bike is 9,500...

I've got a budget of 7,500 for the bike itself once insurance and new gear etc. is paid for.

Probably a little obvious, but, did you try the bikes tab on the cbg.ie site?

    Here's an '05 for 7.7k: http://www.goreybikes.com/BMW1.htm
Still very expensive at that price. The BMW dealers typically buy low and sell high. Keep shopping around. Also, check out the UK and German prices.

Yeah thats what I mean, the prices seem to be inflated with the dealers.

I'm not in a rush, I think I'll just keep an eye out on BBG and autotrader.

UK prices from dealers seem to work out about 1k cheaper when converted to euro.

How much would it cost to register the bike here and pay the VRT etc etc....?

from the new citizensinformation.ie (oasis.gov.ie was much easier to type)

Motorcycles (new) - 2 euro per 350cc and 1 euro per cc thereafter
Motorcycles (used) - 2 euro per 350cc and 1 euro per cc thereafter

I seemed to remember there being something about a discount for each year older too for example the total cost according to the "used" above then -10% for 2 years old - 15% for 3 etc but can't seem to find it.

Just checked the revenue site and it's €500 for a '04 model.

Which isn't bad, but I don't yet have my full A1 license, and AON won't cover me until I get an accessment done, so getting back here could be difficult, plus the fact that if something goes wrong with the bike, I really can't bring it back to the dealer in the UK!

You want an A license not an A1.

    The assessment is worthwhile regardless.

    Sorry meant to say A!

I've got the provisional A at the moment... Yeah I agree the assessment is definitely worth it, but without the A license I can't drive in the UK.

I remember hearing about a guy in the UK who has a van/truck and he does a run from the UK over here once a month with just bikes.

That sounds intriguing... I'd definitely be interested in that...

Any idea if his website / contact info?

This is a good site for getting reviews of the various models of second hand bikes and an idea of their depreciation - shows the original price and what it's now worth at a dealer, by a private sale etc etc. However, it's all in Sterling so it's just indicative (ie take each price and multiply by four hundred million to take account of rip-off Ireland prices  )

I don't remember were I was reading that but I will have a dig and see i I can find you any info.I am in the same boat as you I am looking to get a Honda Deauville budget around 6k,the UK dealers prices are very good and I would be prepared to go over and drive it back but I am not sure if I would save much after paying the VRT.

Its crazy when you do a bit of searching on the UK sites,as I have said I have about 6k euro to spend which works out at around 4kpounds.Over here that will get me a 02 model but in the UK that would get me an 04 model.

    That dam VRT.

    Irish Bikes

    UK Bikes
