Ok - here is the deal. My 11 year old soon took this photo last week. Up until VERY recently he had never held a camera, but having seen some of his results I think that he has a good eye for photography! (but then again what else would a proud parent ever think!!)

So - the thought was that we could post it here & see if you nice people think he is good too ............

The subject is his dog (Clover) who was trying to rest over Christmas!

    Lovely shot, good angle.

Ideas for improvement: I'd crop off a little bit of the bottom and left. Theres also a blueish tone that clashes with the nice soft yellow light, I'd avoid that if I could. Was that from a flash?

the great thing about kids taking photos is that they generally take photos from a different point of view than that of an adult. they aren't as tall, they spend more time on the ground, looking at the world from the ground up.

give him the camera again, whether he has a great eye for photography, the best thing for him to do to get a love of taking pictures and to make him a better photographer is not to limit how many and what type of pictures he takes

Tell your son that that is a lovely photo. I agree that a crop would help but hey, plenty of time for that :D

I wouldn't exactly rush out and buy a dSLR for him, but taking the shot from ground level certainly adds to the image. :)

Nice photo. Perhaps do a Photography Class with him?

Great pic! He has talent for sure! Give him plenty of encouragement, maybe enrol him in a class if he wants. There are plenty of good books out there too for beginners so that he can learn techniques etc. himself.

One thing I would say though, is make sure he continues to enjoy it. I've known parents who identified talents in their children and forced them to pursue them, dragged them to whatever classes/exhibitions/shows were on until the kids saw what they loved turn into a chore and grew to hate it. Encourage him and support him as long as he wants to do it. It really is a lovely pic...and a lovely doggy!!

    Good luck to him :)

To All that posted a comment!

Thanks so much for posting your comments up. My son is not the most confident of people in the world but your comments have really given him a boost.

He is now the proud owner of a "point & press" type digital camera that he is busy with. He is snapping away at every oportunity.

I am just going to sit back & let him enjoy it ........

Thanks again. You can all feel good about yourselves because you have made a child happy (not to mention making me happy too!!)
