    Hi
I have a normal sky package (ie no hd or multiroom) with the standard sky dish and I was wondering what my options are to have some channels in my daughters bedroom without having to purchase multiroom. are there any boxes I can buy for the free channels - I thought I saw something on ireland am a couple of months ago about some sort of box but I am not sure. Any advice would be great?

If multiroom is not an option then to provide free channels in another room (Free to Air or FTA channels) you'll need more than just another box. You will need to have this additional box connected to a satellite dish (i.e. you won't be able to just simply run a cable from the first box to the second box)

You will need a second signal (cable) from the LNB (device on the end of the arm of the satillite dish), which might require that the Sky satellite dish LNB be replaced if a second slot (called a twin LNB) is not present.

Alternatively you could buy a dish (along with the box) and run a cable from that to the new box. I think this will cost around 300 euro or so (incl installation) at the moment.

In the end you'll have to decide whether paying for multiroom is a better option than paying out for an FTA system.

Mods - please edit for accuracy.

Thanks trevord. I had a feeling that it may not be as simple as it sounded - maybe multiroom is the way to go. Thanks again

Yes, I think Trevold has covered it.

You need a Quad LNB (4 outputs, 2 output Dual LNB not available for Sky Minidish) and a FTA receiver, and then a cable run from the new LNB to the location of the new FTA receiver.

It wouldn't be that hard to DIY. As long as the dish is relatively easy/safe for you to access.

you could just run a cable from the back of your existing box to the bedroom.
the downside is you can only view the same channel.
