I dont know, I have Resistance and F1 in the post and I'll probably get Motorstorm when they release it in the US for the multiplayer. I have COD3 and Oblivion on the 360 so theres no point in getting them and Fatal Inertia and VF5 look good but im not a fan of either type of game, so I'll wait and see with them. Im happy enough with the games I have and using it as a Blu-Ray player for the moment.
any point of buying the ps3 remote?

:D just had to say this

bought a hdmi cable from the local shop and omg the differences and mg fall of man is brilliant
probly better than gears of war [and i loved gears of war]

im starting the manchester level and the graphics are unreal:D

Remote, for me anyway, was definitely worth it.....especially if you can find it for €20-30. The likes of YesAsia etc are stocking it, even Movietyme claim to have them as well.
Has a much more AV component style than most console remotes are certainly makes your PS3 feel more like a normal BD player.

You're right, Fall of Man is an excellent game which really came out of nowhere compared to other over-hyped games.
GFX are pretty good, some cheap looking textures here and there (but that could be levelled at the likes of Gears of War and Lost Planet etc), but for the sheer amount of stuff going on it certainly takes the cake. The later levels especially convey a real sense of enviroment and scale.
The traditional FPS style makes it immediate and playable, and as long as you're not sick to death of Call of Duty style games, you'll enjoy it.
Personally I found it much more enjoyable than the likes of Gears of War but I'm sure that some people will tell themselves otherwise.....to each his own I suppose.
Only played the multiplayer once or twice, but the 40 player game I was in was hectic to say the least......much more like a PC deathmatch game than you're typical console snorefest..

I placed my first order on monday, ordered the BD remote and 1 Blu-Ray. Nothing has shipped yet.
HeadShot I'D just get my money back on that preorder if I was you, If you buy it and sell your US one you will just lose money so whats the point.

I will be holding out for the 2nd generation PS3.. look whats happened with the Xbox360 .. Xypher (2nd Gen) has decent specs now... (120Gb,HDMI,IPTV, etc..)

Anyone who has been following the tech side realise M$ really scored big with their scaler chip (they have no resolution scaling/locking problems)... and were able to "roll-out" 1080p support...

The 1st gen PS3 has a lot of horsepower with the cell inside so they do this in software.. however I reckon a 2nd gen PS3 will have a dedicated scaler chip in it to resolve some of the stupid issues we have seen with games/movies locking down to 480p etc..

I think if I'm gonna spend something like 700 euros on a PS3 it at least better be something thats not going to get obsoleted in a year..

    -A

p.s. Look at the PSP... has one of the best mobile screens in the industry.. screaming out to be a media player.. but Sony hobbled it with memory stick and UMD... expect to see a new PSP with no umd.. decent storage and hard drive ... again better of waiting for version 2 ;-)

I got a PS3 from America last week. The UPS guy arrived with it and said "Is this cash on delivery or something?". Knowing that I'd get hit for customs charges I said no but there's probably an import bill.

He said he didn't have any paperwork and wasn't going to come after me for it.

Should I expect a bill through the post sometime then? Anyone know how this kind of thing works?

(( I am not trying to avoid paying customs duty by the way ))

    Hard to know mate..
generally courier services are on the ball and 9/10 times you will receive a bill through the post. Could be a week after delivery, could be a couple of weeks.
Personally, mine was sent via USPS at the end of Nov who transferred it to An Post.........as of today, I've still not received any Customs invoice. May have just been lucky as the postal service is cracking down on international orders.
The likes of Fedex, DHL, UPS etc are responsible for the initial bill from customs, so it is in their interest to chase you down for the charge. I know someone who refused to pay a customs charge sent by Fedex, and his address has been essentially blacklisted from future deliveries !!

Bannable offence on here, I think.

McDermotX - thanks for the info. If I get a bill then I'll pay it. The box didn't appear to have been opened so I'm not sure as to how they'd work out how much should be owed. We'll see anyway.

You can use a stepdown transformer if you want, but all PS3s so far have auto-switching power supplies..
A IEC Lead (pc/kettle lead) with a 3amp fuse is your best bet (some people are using 5amp though with no issues..
I will admit that it was terrifying turning the juice on the first time

    Something like this..

I am looking to get a PS3 at the moment and have 2 options (both are 60g models):

    1) Buy on Amazon Japan for €380 at current exchange rate and get friends there to post it to me

    or

    2) Get my sister to buy me one in New York for about €500 (she goes there at least once a month for work).

Obviously the first option is waaaaay cheaper, but it would definitely be hit by customs (can it be sent as a "gift" or something to avoid customs charges?). What would the duty be on €380?? it might be just cheaper for my sister to get it for me.

    What do you think???

getting from japan might be cheaper in the long run
i got hit by 130 euro by customs

some people got hit by 100

but the postage costs from japan would cost alot

if you get it from america you sister would be bringing it back with her
so she'll say to customs it s a gift

    they'll probly not charge her
