Yeah. Did you buy the one for $799 from egamestar? So nearly paying $900 for a games console? And then theres the 100 euro (approx) customs charge.

From what I have read there is only one good game on the ps3 at the moment (resistence). If you'd waited until the euro release there'd be a few more decent games available and you'd have saved a bit of money.

Me thinks there's a good chance of buyer's remorse come March.

no i didnt buy it off egamestar

wouldnt pay that kind of money

call of duty 3 is out now and ridge racer 7

    motorstorm is out February 27

    lads how do customs work

i never dealth with them before

    how will they work

    how do they charge you

    etc

do they keep hold of the item untill you pay custom fees??

I've had it work two ways. First was they held it and called me looking for some way to pay over the phone (I used CC). Second was through Fed Ex who paid the charges and billed me for it later (with a nice admin charge ontop ¬_¬)

mine was sent with USPS to. it was priority airmail and cost $84. surface would have cost $25. I didnt get a tracking no. how much did u pay for shipping?

    USPS is not courior right

the post man delivers it to the house

and ciaran that experience sounds bad

I found a note saying there was a parcel for me in the post office and when I went down to collect I paid them. They didnt charge a fee like the couriers do. The last time I used UPS I got charged €14 admin charge plus customs charge on a single game that cost $70. That was the only time I ever used them.

    what happens with a game

how much does customs charge on that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭dor83

it depends on where you ordered from and how they ship. if they use a courier you will most likely be charged customs but if they use standard post you should be ok if its only 1 game. I have ordered a lot of games from VG+ and Play-Asia and never been charged customs so long as its not been more than 1 game at a time. I would recommend VG+ coz they mark everything as $20, I got a PSP from them and didnt pay any customs and they are usualy delivered in about a week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭dor83

yeah play-asia wont ship any sony products to the EU. I have orders from dvdboxoffice and yes asia which should be here this week or early next week so I'LL let you know if I get hit by customs and how quick they get here. VG+ are my favourite site for sony stuff though coz they are quick and you never get hit for customs. When did your Ps3 ship?

ricey is all depends on how much are you willing to spend

i wouldnt go near a seller with less than 50 feedback and 100 positive
and look up his selling history

it took me ever to pick the right ps3 for me at the right price

i use to look every day on ebay for the ps3

but if you have someone whose going to America or Asia they could bring you home a ps3

HeadShot, How much was marked as the value on the box? Mine was marked full value and it included a game and extra controler and I only got charged €100.

Ricey, I've heard that if its marked as used electronics and full value you wont get charged customs coz they dont charge for used items, might be worth a try for you. I'd recomend videogamesplus for US games, they are one of the best sites I'v ever used and you never get hit for customs with them. I've also used yesasia and dvdboxoffice but my first orders are on the way now and I'll let you know if they are any good when they get here. dvdboxoffice also sell Blu-Rays, which i have on order. Amazon might also bet worth a try for Blu-Rays but make sure its amazon.com and you get the right region.

The Blu-Rays havent arrived yet, I have Tears Of The Sun, X-Men 3 and Underworld Evolution on order. Theres a list of good quality Blu-Rays somewhere, Ill find it when I get home tonight and post a link. I have it lying down coz its sitting under the tv. I think the new L2 and R2 buttons are a bit fiddly, I prefer the 360 controler its a lot more comfortable. Dont know about the bluetooth, I thought it was for the controlers only, but I might be wrong. HDMI is the best way to connect if you have the connection on your TV, it doesnt matter which one you get as the quality only starts to degrade when you go into very long lenghts. I got a cheap one from ebay and it works fine, I'm just waiting for my new TV to be delivered.

what tv did you go for dor83

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭johnny_adidas

are they handy enough to pick up overseas? im heading to new york in oct so by then im hoping any teething issues (which always seems to happen with the first few batches of new consoles) will have been ironed out. also the price will surely have dropped by then, along with a greater selection of games available.
what did those of you who bought them foreign do? did you carry them in hand baggage or in your suitcases and did customs go through your stuff/charge accordingly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

There will be loads around by October but I doubt they will have dropped the RRP at all by then.

I went for this Samsung, got it in PC World for €1550 inc. delivery and a digital camera.
What games did you get other than Resistance? I got NBA 2K6 and NHL 2K6 in the post today, havent played them yet as Im only in from work. If youre looking for Blu-Rays have a read through this thread from avsforums.com, its a good guide to which Blu-Rays are good quality.

Kingdom of Heaven......top dog in Blu-ray at the moment for PQ..
Black Hawk Down.......is probably a little overrated in my opinion (PQ wise)...think the film is garbage anyway..
Animated always looks well so IceAge2, Corpse Bride, The Wild etc.. are all excellent..
The rest of the Tier 1 discs are generally excellent as well such as Tears and Underworld, but it can be a very subjective viewing experience for some. Some people will not appreciate the visibilty of film grain, which is part and parcel of the BD/HD-DVD viewing.
The likes of XMen3, Mission Impossible 3, BHD etc all exhibit this as this was the directors original intent, just so you're aware before you think there may be something wrong with your setup.
You'll also find a lot of films (mainly digitally shot ones) have had grain added post-production to produce a more film look, this has previously been unable to be appreciated due to the low res of DVD etc, but is much more noticable in HD.

The bluetooth functionality at the moment is limited to BT headsets and the BD Remote (excellent addition if your using the PS3 for BD playback)

I dont know, I have Resistance and F1 in the post and I'll probably get Motorstorm when they release it in the US for the multiplayer. I have COD3 and Oblivion on the 360 so theres no point in getting them and Fatal Inertia and VF5 look good but im not a fan of either type of game, so I'll wait and see with them. Im happy enough with the games I have and using it as a Blu-Ray player for the moment.
