One of the few films I'm looking forward to seeing, even though I've yet to get around to watching the first.

    He looks fairly delicious...

How the film will pan out though remains to be seen.

Indeed, I looked it up and it's gone from me know relatively little about him he's quickly growing to be my favorite superhero.
    Wikipedia wrote:
The Silver Surfer possesses vast power known as the "Power Cosmic," gained when Galactus restructured his former body. He has the ability to channel ambient cosmic energy into his body at will, and expel it violently as concussive force or gently as a means to restructure molecules according to his mental design. The Surfer can generate beams of energy with sufficient destructive force to destroy a planet or, by contrast, generate such subtle amounts of energy to restructure the molecules of the natural pigments within a plant to change its color. The Surfer can rearrange the molecules of matter to create other configurations and can even directly transmute elements. The Surfer can manipulate "chronal" energies and thus can peel back the veil of time to witness past events or to even directly travel through time. While he can use his power to revitalize life energies and heal the wounded, there is no proof that he can create life from nothingness or return the dead to life.

The Surfer possesses superhuman strength. Additionally, the Surfer can use the Power Cosmic to amplify his physical strength to a level at least rivaling that of an enraged Hulk. In addition, his body can move and react at superhuman velocities; he routinely navigates asteroid fields and attacks entire armadas of starships at or beyond the speed of light while maintaining surgical precision.

The Silver Surfer has certain cosmic energy-enhanced perceptions which enable him, through concentration, to become aware of the patterns of energy which surround him. Accordingly, he can sense great concentrations or deployments of energy at a great range, the extent of which is undetermined but is at least on an intra-galactic scale. He has a special affinity for the life energies of living beings, and can use his cosmic powers to augment them to a certain degree. The Surfer's other senses are also thus enhanced: he has demonstrated the ability to see as far as a light year while concentrating and without obstructions to his line of sight. Although the Surfer's senses are superhumanly keen, his sometimes detached and introspective nature occasionally leaves him unaware of his surroundings.

The forces binding together the molecules making up the silvery material that composes the Silver Surfer's "skin" are so great that there are few known forces in the universe great enough to overcome them. The inner portions of his body have also been restructured to be highly resistant to injury. Thus, the Surfer is invulnerable to most forms of physical harm. He can easily withstand great extremes of temperature caused by the build-up of friction within atmospheres, the vacuum of space or the intense heat found within stars. He has flown through the cores of stars and even soared through a supernova explosion on at least one occasion. He can survive without difficulties in the vacuum of outer space and hyperspace, and his body can withstand the stresses of travel at multiples of light speed in hyperspace. He has maintained that he is no longer in fact "mortal", but this is most likely an inference that he now has very little in common biologically with humans, rather than an assertion that he cannot be killed. It is likely that the Surfer does not age; his counterpart in the future timeline of the Guardians of the Galaxy is over a thousand years old and is at least as powerful as his present-day counterpart. The Surfer's mind has also been restructured so that he has considerable resistance to telepathy and other mind control methods. He has the ability to communicate with various alien species regardless of their native language, and to speak to others in the vacuum of space, possibly through a limited form of telepathy.

The Silver Surfer does not need to eat or breathe since he absorbs life-maintaining cosmic energy directly into his body. Although his body does not require sleep, his mind must still rest occasionally in order to give it an opportunity to dream.

By using his board to exceed the speed of light. The Surfer can shift himself into hyperspace, a dimension in which velocity is not limited by the speed of light. The Surfer can also compress his own bodily matter so as to shift himself into a so-called microverse. Additionally, he can phase his body's molecules to pass through solid matter or energy.

Despite these vast powers, the Surfer is not completely unstoppable. He has in the past been wounded by vastly powerful forms of magic and by other users of the Power Cosmic, such as Galactus and his other heralds. He is not completely immune to psionics or other forms of mental attack or manipulation, although his willpower, spiritual strength, and Galactus' mental and spiritual tampering provide him with a superhuman resistance to mind control and psionics.

They should have called him virtually indestructible guy. Ha..
Indeed one of Stan lee’s better heroes.

Silver Surfer always reminded me of a superhero that a kid would come up with.
"Can't kill me because errr I can channel the Power Cosmic to make me immune to flying turds"
A villian has a new trick up his sleeve and old Silver Surfer is always impervious to it. What a boring hero.....

    Looks CGI-arrific.

And hopefully there's a vilianous plot this time around too :)

I thought the first movie was pretty decent too.

looking forward to this, and heard rumours a certain world devourer turns up too. love the design of the guy, particularly the way the eyes were so reminicent of kirbys design. should be a cool movie:)

I only remember before seeing the Silver Surfer in the original F4 cartoon from the 60s/70s. He was sort of bad guy but then wasn't

Is Doctor Doom returning for the film? Who's the villain? Doom or the Silver Surfer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

I hope this means Galactus is the baddy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

    Fingers crossed, big time.

IMHO the CGI Surfer doesn't look too great. He looks a bit too CGI and not muscley enough.
And yes, the Surfer is Galactus's herald so the appearance of the Surfer indicates the immanent arrival of the big guy. If not, that'll be the end of this franchise.....

As I'm sure you all know Stan Lee's contribution to the creation of the Silver Surfer and Galactus was to simply say to Jack Kirby: "have the FF fight God". Those were the days ;) .

I think the CGI looks pretty good, reminds me a bit of the T1000 in terminator 2

meant to mention that i hope before its over they put the 4 lines on his board!:D just doesnt seem right with out em

im pretty sure they intended this to be a trilogy if it was sucessful enough so doom should be back in the third. that said i wouldnt say no to Namor (unfortunetly i think he's getting his own film so that may be ruled out:( )

The lines would be the icing on the cake, but I don’t see them in the Trailer, “shame442px-Silver_surfer.jpg

That teaser certainly seems to be selling the movie as "The Silver Surfer Movie .... featuring The Fantastic Four". Smart move I would reckon. Each and every one of those 4 ass-clowns in FF1 sucked donkey-balls. I probably would have even rooted against them during that film except that Dr.Doom was just as lame as they were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

Per IMDB the great Andre Braugher is going to play a US Army General in this movie but OTOH there is no mention of Galactus ?!?!
How can this be?

Julian McMahon is down on the cast list on IMDb... although they tend to be fairly inaccurate.

I wouldn't mind seeing Doom back though... I think he looked great in the first film and they have it set up to do his origin story properly this time around due to him being sent off to Latvaria.

According to Wikipedia, Doom will be back.

Thanks for the link. They also say:
Tom Rothman, Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, has confirmed that Galactus will also appear in the film. Rothman also stated directly in an interview that "fans will not be disappointed".

The fact that they have to say "fans will not be disappointed" at this early stage is a worrying sign IMHO.

Well, I thought the first film was a gigantic pile of pants - and for the record I really enjoy watching Marvel movies - so I don't think it could get much worse.

    Here's hopin'

I agree with you MF, Doom looked brilliant in the first film, but I would have loved to see him portray the character more evil though.

Mr Fantastic and The Invisible Woman (prob not the right names....) are about t get married - the crowb get shocked by something flying through the sky - Mr Fantastic tells "Flame Boy" ( :D ) to go check it out.... FLAME ON! then we get a chase between HT and the Silver Surfer, which sees Silver Surfer going through a building, and a bus, and his board (very cool) before dragging HT up towards space at which point his flame goes out, and he starts to drop back to earth. fade out....

He's the voice of the Surfer, according to the IMDB.

The way the surfers lips move in that trailer is really fake and cheap looking. I hope its better by the time the pic comes out.

CGI is pretty damn good in this one alright. Never watched the first one because I heard it was a turd, but might have to check this out... seems this summer is going to be some busy cinema going.

Doug Jones is the Silver Surfer. Well.. he's the body anyways. Some people may remember him as the faun from Pan's Labyrinth.

I can't wait to see this movie, the Silver Surfer looks amazing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

I'll definately put the first to the back of my mind and go to see this - bringing in the Silver Surfer was a great move. I'm not sure what the ratio is between CGI and actor, but Doug Jones was superb in Pan's Labyrinth as both the Pale Man and the faun. Not to mention Abe Sapien in Hellboy.

I won't have too much expectations, as I didn't with the first, but hopefully this will exceed them. (Unlike the first).

Now AICN claims that Galactus will look like ... a giant storm cloud. "Think Superman/Silver Surfer flying through clouds with Galactus/Jorel (voice-over)," according to the site's scooper.

    :(
