He was rather smug & patronising, wasn't he? Glad he didn't get the gem at the end.

Neither did I. I saw it a few months back. Kept shouting "Why won't you die!" at Leonardo DiCaprio, so I decided I'd pass this time.

The nudie bit is removed for transmission at this hour of the day.

I always thought, if Rose hadn't jumped out of the lifeboat then Jack would have been able to use the door in the water as a raft, possibly not dying and being rescued, they could have then reunited on the other ship. :)

Well it just has to be a big expensive load of ****e and it's always in with a chance (eg LOTR3 or Chicago).

Yep. It should be noted that I wasn't actually watching the film, but rather flicking around. I swear!

I recall seeing it on another station and they had blurred out the offending areas.

It is a pity they didn't blur the entire film! :D

I'd be surprised if they did anything to it - RTE generally don't.

Did anyone catch the special short that they had on on Christmas Eve at midday? Apparently every third word was "f*ck" and it contained lashes of violence, ending with someone having their brains blown out. At midday. Puts a bit of PG12 nudity into perspective really...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,383 ✭✭✭emeraldstar

aw i love titanic. I had half an eye on it...don't know if they cut the nudie bit but the bit where your man says "the iceberg warning in his fcuking hands" they silenced the baaaad word.....

The Anarchic Hand Affair sure they thought 'tis an irish award winning short filum just right for the season'! They rarely bother checking what they are showing. Like MGM channel.

    Mike.

You gotta love hearing the words "sh*t" and "bast*ard" on the telly at a time of year when young ears will be everywhere in the house. Well done RTE! ;)

    I don't think so!
Regarding movies, I always watch them on RTE. The UK Terrestrials generally chop them to bits.

Sorry, can I hijack this thread for just a second? I have a quick announcement:

I mentioned the film to my little sister, who said unwaveringly that she "loved it" and that she cried so much it was "the saddest film ever".

So, from now on, I have no sister.

    That's all. Carry on. :)

nah think you might be wrong there, they let a 6pm saturday transmission of lost out with the phrase "this is all bollo(ks" doesn't seem like censoring to me.

I can't believe how much people criticise Titanic. At worst it's an average love story/action movie. I personally think it's a lot better than that, but the derision it gets is ridiculous.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

it goes on for too long and only gets interesting when you hear "Iceberg ahead!!!!"

the movie bores me to tears. but thats just my opinion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Titanic is a load of **** (but then boards will censor that word) :D

How did it ****ing win 11 oscars?

I am all for bad language on Christmas Day :), it wouldn't be christmas with out it IMO.

Down with this kind of thing.

Titanic could come under "Educational Material" hence no censorship in the same way that Shindler's List was given a PG rating.

Anyone else pissed off with paramount for beeping american sitcoms with the tinyest bit of bad lanuage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

but words like ass will corrupt the masses

did RTÉ leave in the scene that had a topless Kate Winslet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I only saw the pencil drawing with the nipples showing and a flash back at the beginning of the movie I stopped watching after that. I assume they left it in it's not like people haven't see nipples before.

How come ass isn't starred on boards? Honestly I think I should give out. I am getting on to Joe Duffy after xmas. :)

Schindler's List was rated 15's when it was released. Titanic was rated 12's. RTE have shown it uncut at that time before, no reason for them to change things this year. Some of the scenes towards the end, such as the suicide are far more questionable for a matinee screening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I was sure it was given a PG rating because of it's historical basis. I'd have rated it PG for that reason.

At the time the 15's was pretty light. The film has full frontal nudity, very strong on screen violence and is incredibly intense in parts. Had it not had historical and educational value, it would certainly have been 18s. Does anybody know if it carried the same warning in front of it that Michael Collins did (that it contained footage not typically in a film of that rating)? Off topic...

Micheal Collins wasn't as graphic as Shindler's List (I know I am spelling that wrong). Saving Private Ryan was given a 15's rating, yeah? which again may not be typical. Also Stephen Spilberg won't allow an edited version of Saving Private Ryan which lead to many ABC affilates in the US not showing it.

What rating does Titanic have and what Rating did RTE give it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Titanic was rated 12 here and in the UK, PG-13 in the US
Rating Reason: Rated PG-13 for disaster related peril and violence, nudity, sensuality and brief language.

    RTE rated it PS.

Yeah, it was given a PG rating at the time when the content was more suited to a 15s.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Veronica Guerin was rated 15 here and 18 in the UK. Same principle

RTÉ do chop their movies. I watched T2 the other week and they left out the part where they flick Arnie from a mindless idiot to a mindless idiot who could learn (kinda). However they left in all the swearing, and all the other violent stuff

It is rare when RTE do edit movies. I would say that might have been a mistake, was the news on during T2?

Just as long as they are keeping in all of the swearing and violence, I am happy :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,372 ✭✭✭The Bollox

it's very possible the news was in the middle of it. It was the Thursday Night movie on Network 2, that's right, it's called Network 2, not RTÉ 2

Couldn't be as bad as the movie from 1980 - 'Raise the Titanic' ... the ship was still in once piece when they raised it.

Lew Grade, who made 'Raise the Titanic' did comment it would've been cheaper to lower the Atlantic :)

Cut for content or cut for time? Because my DVD copy of the pilot is longer than the original broadcast that I watched on CBC in Canada, which was simulcast with ABC in the US.
