I know it was to be expected (as they'd admitted that they intend getting onto Sky Digital as soon as possible), but I've heard it from a friend that Channel 6 will be joining Sky Digital in February.

if its true looks like they probably had to take the slot sky offered them. especially with channel4 now on sky it left them looking rather out of place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

Yeah, from what I heard they will be taking whatever Sky give them.

Any ideas on what number it might be?

Somewhere in the 200's I would think.

What's the point? If you have Sky, you can see the tripe they put on anytime....

I thought that C6 had a 2 year exclusivity agreement with NTL? There has been talk of C6 launching two complimentary channels. Perhaps these may be first to Sky with the main channel to follow?

An independent production company. I don't mind saying it because it's been fairly common knowledge that Channel 6 really need to get on Sky to ensure their survival. Let's face it, any exclusivity agreement with NTL is pretty much worthless to NTL if they end up having to close down due to lack of viewers.

For their sake I hope they get a fairly decent EPG placement. Okay, they don't offer much more than any of the many UK satellite channels, but it would be nice to see an Irish company succeeding in the busy market place.

I guess they've also got their eye on getting some space on Irish DTT...

    unlikely

with Sky you take the next available unless you have EPG slots already (ie. Channel 4 taking 142)

Channel 6 will be stuck at the arse end of the EPG and it is only themselves to blame

What agreement do they have with NTL.

Sure I have Chorus and they are on that.

Yes, but NTL and Chorus are now both under the umbrella of UPC (t/a Chello).

As for NTL/UPC having an exclusivity deal with C6, I'm not sure. I would not think it to be a wise business move by Channel 6 if they had long term ambitions of being available on satellite and presumably DTT.

Is channel 4 available on sky? If so how do I avail of it, sorry off topic.

    Electronic Programme Guide.

Basically, it's Sky's big blue tv guide that's built into the sky box.

In other words, Channel 4 is on No 142 on your Skybox!

will this channel be available via a ftv card from uk or will it only be available on an irish sub?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,186 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Why would it be on a UK FTV card ??? Its an Irish channel. And it'll almost certainly be subscription only, Ireland only.

    well......I just asked!

Bubble Hits is irish, and is on English Sky and is FTV!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,186 ✭✭✭✭L1011

    No, its FTA.

Nothing is FTV except Channel 4, Sky Three and the three Five channels.

It's probably the best that they can hope for - at least it's easy to remember.

Theres significantly more than that on FTA satellite.

Can you PLEASE stop posting utterly pointless speculation? Its getting highly tiring to read the same crap, different location every day.

what phone number did you use to contact them?

and this is a satellite board, not the terrestrial board. you'd swear you wanted everyone to know you can receive the "Irish DTT pilot project" the way you keep going on about it

I've seen this copied and pasted at least 10 times now on different boards!
Anyways its about time we have another Irish channel on sky, any chance of city-channel I wonder?:D

does anyone actually want City Channel

Since I presume the City Channel to only be of relevance to Dublin, I can't see the point of it being available nationally tbh.

They're supposed to be launching tailored versions for Waterford and Galway, as far as I know. They'd hardly put three versions of it on.

The precedent of a city channel is already there with Channel M (Manchester).

Still no sign of the Channel 6 tests 11.261H changing from EPG info to actual programming...

    well......I just asked!

Bubble Hits is irish, and is on English Sky and is FTV!

Channel 6 has only Irish rights to all its US imports so there is no chance of it ever being available on Sky in the U.K. They wouldn't be able to acquire UK rights to most of their shows as (a) they woudn't be able to afford them and (b) most of them would be owned by other UK stations already.

Bubble Hits is totally different in that it is just a music video station without rights acquisition issues and is targetted at both the Irish and UK markets.

From what i have seen of it , it is preety much a mixture of old Sky One and Paramount.
Lot of shows like Buffy and Dawsons Creek, and then on Tuesday (lads night) the line is great (IMHO) got My name is earl , Family Guy , Trailer park boys, Scrub and Seinfeld.
So it is really just a form of the Paramount Comedy , but I can watch those shows over and over again.
They seem to show a few movies , usually older/cult movies . Think Gator , with Burt Reynold is on tonight...Never saw it but was only reading about it the other day seems ok..

Not much of what we have already seen, but they do have the SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild) Almost Live!

Thought I'd add the news to this thread (as it's the original) - full video testing is now on the test channel. It's in widescreen too. Blocked from UK viewers.

I just saw a press release from C6 confirming their start on Sky Digital on 5th February. No details about EPG number on it.

    EPG number later today

It's in today (Thursday)'s Irish Times

    http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2007/0201/1170281020426.html
Sky Ireland recently turned up the heat on UPC by adding Channel 4, a mainstream British channel, to its digital line-up. Channel 6, a fledgling Irish broadcaster, will be added next week.

With the exception of Setanta Sports, viewers now have an almost identical channel choice between Sky and NTL/Chorus.

Theres a full page add on the Star also confirming Feb 5th as the start date.

According to Channel 6, the exact EPG number will be confirmed tomorrow (Friday), but it will be either 221 or 223. Hardly the numbers they wanted.

They should take on the style of a general terrestrial to improve ratings. A few news shows aimed at younger viewers (like BBC3's) and a breakfast show like Channel 4's RISE would help them out a lot I think.

Otherwise, why bother tuning in? A rip off quiz show, a show for gamers and teleshopping. Yay! :D
