I found my folks old Olympus-35 SP while looking for some stuff at home the other day.

It's this one here I'm going to get a DSLR very soon and start a mild obsession with photography, but was wondering if something like this would be of some use? What should I check the camera for to see if all's in working order? It's been in storage for at least 15 years!

Nice handy and quiet rangefinder camera. Nice find.

Stick some film in and go for a play around.

Put a roll of film in & see how it works - looks like a great camera alright.

Check the lenses for mould, check that the shutter exposes for the correct time for every shutter speed setting, check that the iris diaphragm closes down correctly for every ƒ stop setting. Check that the back isn't leaking light.
I won't go into the specifics for each test but google will sort you out in short order.
Congrats on your find. I'd love one myself.

This eBay item may be of interest.

I'd say that's a nice little collector's piece you have on your hands — take care of it! :)
