    Hey

I have an IDE HD that has all of my data on it and id like to connect it to my new SATA based Dell E520.

    so I bought this

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:31&Item=120055446105

but when I hooked it up my computer wouldn't boot. I think it might be trying to boot from the IDE HD rather than the one that's in it at the moment so how would I go about setting the IDE as a slave and the one in it now as a master? I'm not too sure what to do!!

You need to change the boot order in the bios. Slave/master shouldn't matter if both drives are on different controllers.

I know on my dfi board it will pick the sata drive first in master, over the one on the ide controller. I just had to change it in the bios. from ide/sata recognise, or something similar.

i think mine has an option to enable/disable sata drives to be bootable.

have a look around your own bios and see if theres a boot from sata option.

There should be a boot order part in your bios. Just have a browse around it. Each one is different. The bios is the "press del to enter setup" or "press F2 to enter setup" bit. (just in case)

i cant get into the bois when the IDE HD is connected! infact i cant get into it if the little ebay adapter is plugged into the MB. there are two slots beside the CPU that accept the adapter - am i definitely right in conncecting it to one of these slots?

i cant get into bios when the IDE HD is connected so i went into it when it wasnt connected, enabled all of the SATA connections and tried it again and still nothing. then disconnected the dvd rom and plugged those existing connections into my HD and still nothing. therefore, i thinl the i have to set first order second order but if i cant get into bios to do this what do i do???

    id really appreciate your help!?
