Glad they came to their senses :D

It looks more like the one we DIDNT rip from that website earlier, more like the one from the Dublin Co Co website from awhile back. But with the Luas movements of the one from the website.

So all in all, a hybrid of the two.

Edit: Looks like we'll see Irelands first bit of D6 road, for about 100m on one side of the carriageway :D

Looks like the same one to me. Perhaps Murphadh has that image?:)

    Heres the three -

    1) Dublin Co Council website, 2005. Luas at-grade. Worthless setup.

    oldone.jpg

    2) m50.ie, hidden page. Got pulled once we started to access it. Luas grade separated.

    newone.jpg

    3) Official one, m50.ie today -

    N7-LFF-small.jpg

Yep the new one is the best, IMO. Luas grade separated and freeflow movements all round.

    Bigger version on the website.

The 3rd one takes the Luas from (2) and the road design from (1).

Whats the most easterly (or lowest in the pic) flyover section for? It looks surplus to requirement.

I think it leads to an underpass which takes one out in the vicinity of the roundabout at the centre left of the picture?

It looks like the monstery rd flyover to the luas. It passes beside the ibis hotel

That over-bridge is the existing Luas bridge. It will allow drivers to do a u-turn back into the city from the Naas Rd, that's all. I assume they decided to incorporate it rather than knock.

Strange plan. That road intersecting the N7 just before the M50 north turnoff is an accident waiting to happen.

Hmmm does'nt look clever does it? It should be designed as a slip not a stop junction. Except then you'd not have time to navigate to the straight ahead position without cutting someone up.

The 3rd one takes the Luas from (2) and the road design from (1).

No - the third one is pretty much the same as (2), in road design and Luas, except it's now clear that 2 only partially showed the setup (one of the loops is just off the right edge of 2). The first image doesn't even look like an actual possible setup.

And 2 is interesting in that it gives a side view of the M50 north to R110 east, with the merging "R110 U turn" lane using the current Luas bridge. You can clearly see that the road layout is the same in both 2 and 3, just that 3 is a clearer "birds eye" view.

This is great for Luas users as well as motorists. Not only is Luas now grade separated through the junction with no stopping or even much slowing, it's also passing through the Red Cow station at a shallower angle. This means it doesn't have to crawl around all the bends that currently exist as it heads south. This could potentially shave several minutes off the journey time.

    A - Monastery Road overbridge.
B - Existing Luas bridge reused for traffic from Turnpike Road(?) heading to the city.
C - Its possible that there are traffic lanes under the tram tracks (at a different level) that is that the inbound bridge is 4-lane, not 2- or 3-lane.
D - Turnpike Road. Note at grade junction.

I know the turnpike? road junction is at grade and that's ok IMO as the R110 is riddled with traffic lights and private accesses and has a low speed limit anyway but what about the Monastery Rd junction onto the N7 IMMEDIATELY before the M50 slips diverge. In the original montage you can clearly see a stop line running right across the N7 eastbound carriageway-indicating signal controls. The junction design at this location does not appear any different, so is that stop line (and signal controls) gonna be present in the finished article? If so, it's a shambolic design. Look at the stopline......

If you're coming from the M50 from the airport heading west you can't get off at the LUAS depot either, because the exit is too near.

And as I said, the one in the other direction is a complete shambles altogether.

There shouldn't be an exit there at all, in either direction, it's too close to the interchange and will only interefere with traffic getting in lane. It's not safe and it will cause accidents.

Just because the road is "N" designated that doesn't mean they should have free reign to build unsafe on and offramps.

Agreed - but I think the ones on the south side of the road are probably ok. If you start merging towards the left early enough, you should make it to the left hand edge of the road in time to take the exit.

They really need to move the northern part west of the Monastery bridge though. It's a low density area, there's lots of room for creating a new link road.

    Wow.. This is great stuff!

I agree with everyone, on the Monastery road slip road NB etc... It's totally illogical and very dangerous, even more to the fact that this interchange is and will be "freeflow" thus creating faster moving traffic conflicting the LILO.. Anyway it's impossible for Luas/Monastery road to access the citybridge R110 road!!

And.... It wouldn't be allowed to be built in other countries.

Also did anyone see at grade cross junction for Turnpike to slip accross the Naas outbound carriagway to NB M50 Loop???? This is crazy.

If I was planning:) I'd chop these right angle junctions and reroute it away from the interchange. There is plenty of accesses between there and Longmile or even skate back to Newlands cross! But the important point is at least the Luas is grade seperated from the redcow traffic.:)

Btw. what's up with the M50 (tallaght side) skirting under the luas bridge onto the citybound lanes, it seems to dissapear altogether rather than join it?

looking at the render it appears that there will be actually be full free flow ?
no traffic lights whatsoever ? i can't make out any stop lines anyway ...

m50.ie always maintained that it would be a 'partial free flowing interchange'

This revised scheme includes rerouting the Luas line. There is one set of traffic lights left at Turnpike Road.

Can't wait to see what they try to plan to put in place for the m50 navan road junction.

You can probably find the layouts in the EIS docs on the web.

I think that's where the junction layouts at the bottom of this thread came from:

m50/Navan road is in message #19.

Put in the proper junctions and get rid of all tolls, and then the M50 will work.

    Thanks for that jmkennedyie.
