i was wondering what everyone is getting (camera wise) as a pressie - either treating yourself or from your loved ones!
Personally i've stumped up for the EOS 1 series well a little while back now! so i dunno if that really qualifies for christmas! - i'm sure broke after it so i aint in a position to get anything much this year!!

    :)

Well, apart from a new PC with a monster 30" monitor for photo editing, I got a 4GB Card, and a diffuser for my flash. And signed up for a Photography Course.

well I buy a lot of my own gadgets (17-85mm IS just 2 weeks ago) but she's getting me a EF 500 DG & a sony PSP (plus some suplises!)

Fionn, the series 1 is soooo tempting. BUT for once in my life I am being patient and waiting until next year when Canon have to, I hope, upgrade it. I have a 10D and have held off but ,regardless, I will move up before June. That will be it. For ever like.

Am thinking about a wee cheap printer so I can start to get my head round photoshopping for paper output. Darling husband already gave me the Martin Evening CS2 book which he picked out all on his ownsome, he's well trained by now - I might just keep him... ;)

I'm picking up a like new Sigma 105mm EX Macro from another boards user over Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,499 ✭✭✭✭Alun

Well, I bought myself a Sigma 10-20mm zoom a few days back as a sort of Christmas pressie to myself if that counts? Forgot to get a polarizing filter for it though, so the missus has got me one which is sitting under the tree as we speak. So not very exciting at all really :(

And like Valentia I'll be getting a new body in Aug/Sep. I'll head Stateside to pick it up.

if i had the funds i think i'd like to get a A3 printer to go with the 1Ds but it'll have to wait for a while yet.

@Valentia yes the 1 series cameras are something else this one was second-hand but in perfect condition and going at a very attractive price, i was fortunate enough to have it on loan for a while while i made up my mind, my 350D had to go in the process tho! but i'm well happy with this camera.
to but things into perspective the price of it with pixmania CANON EOS-1Ds

    happy days

Sweet Jazus  That's some money! An A3 printer doesn't seem so out of reach when you see figures like that. I have an Epson 2100 and it is fantastic Though the newer ones are supposed to be even better.

Sweet - how do they actually work??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,764 ✭✭✭Valentia

I resized a few pics and stuck in a CF card and you can change the pics with a remote. I thought that they would change automatically but my one doesn't do that. It will do a slide show but 4 pics on screen at a time :(

I got photoframes and albums (always needed) and then I also (arrived this morning - yes, just in time for the three kings) this little gem. I am so looking forward to looking at it, through it, and above all else, seeing if I can replicate much of it...Not much base jumping done in Ireland mind.

I got the 18-50 2.8 EX DC Macro from sigma ,just a couple of days ago.
Excellent manual focus ring on it and very easy to see focussing too.

    I had a 300D, so spec wise it's a biggish upgrade. Things I like:

    - Size...I tried the 350D and 400D, but they were far too small and hard to grip. The 30D is a little bigger than the 300D, which suits me fine
    - Start up time. this is a huge leap forward
-Thumbwheel thingy for changing aperture in Manual...much better than holding down a button and using the main dial
    -Focus speed and accuracy

To be honest, I haven't had a chance to take on a good spin yet, these are just my first impressions...

    Cheers for that cambo,sounds fantastic.
I've got a 350D at the moment and I'm a little annoyed at how small the viewfinder is.
    Thanks

i was given an external drive for backing up my shots, much overdue.

i know, i've had it on loan for about two years, and it's getting to the point where not buying it is very cheeky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 410 ✭✭mervifwdc

Went for an expodisk for WB. Very impressed!
Also a graphics tablet. And plan on buying more memory for my steam driven pc at home. I've had a few too many comments about not processing my pictures enough (at all) to make me thik I need to sort that out.

    Happy new year to all!

    Merv.

Main phot present was a new tripod and got other family members to re-gift me a few accessories I'd purchased (spare battery, card reader for laptop, ND4 filter, remote control trigger, ...). Also got an amazon voucher which went towards a book on Photoshop. Hope my presents to others were as well received!
