Dubai and kids?

Anyone brought young kids (2.5 and 6mths!!) to Dubai? Any thoughts. How well are they setup for kids. I hear that it's not really a walking place i.e. you don't walk to the beach coz it's too hot etc. and you need to taxi everywhere?

Been to the UAE 4 times. 3 times Dubai and once AD. IMHO it's just too hot for kids.
