New Camera Bag!!

    Hey all,

I just picked up one of the new Lowepro Sling Shot bags, the smaller one, and it's absolutely fantastic! This isn't a plug for Lowepro, but I picked it up for my trip to Stockholm and it was much easier than carrying a shoulder bag. I only have a P&S camera, but I was able to fit in all my gear and even strap on the tripod to the back. It's a brilliant bag if you don't want to carry all your kit around. It's very comfortable and even comes with one of those rain covers that covers the whole bag.

Lowe Alpine took it down from their site because they were inundated with requests for it. It only came into limited stock in B&H but they seem to have it in again.
    Holds a s**t load apparently.

Mine is pretty chock-a-block too .. my new Sigma 10-20 is bigger (in diameter) than I thought it would be and it's a bit of a tight fit what with all the other [strike]junk[/strike] highly essential kit, I have in it :)

lens from HK, lights from Barkers.

Actually, how much would you get into a slingshot? I recently advised someone to buy one as a christmas present without fully knowing how much kit their photographic other half has. Eeep

I got this case last week -

    http://www.devoncamera.co.uk/index.cfm/photographic/Products.Details/product_id/1187/subject/lowepro_apex_140aw_digital

I like it but its a tight fit to try get the camera and charger etc in. Only have the one lens at the moment so thats not a problem!

What would you all recommend for a slightly bigger, all weather bag? Newbie question, I know :)

I was looking at getting a Lowpro backpack, there close to a hundred notes, seams a bit of rip-off , when you can pick up a regular back pack for 10 euros, is it really worthwhile having a backpack that has a tight fit for the camera, or will a regular back pack not do the job and possibly damage camera ?

having recently bought a computrekker plus, yes, it's invaluable to have a bag that (all) your gear fits snuggly into and stays protected. If you keep your slr & related bits & pieces in a regular backpack, you're inviting trouble on yourself.

Anyway, after shelling out so much cash on a camera & accessories, doesn't it deserve a decent place to live?

I have a tamrac backpack and it is very nice. I would definitely shell out enough money to protect the camera - there's a piece of me feeling absolute pain at the thought of just throwing the camera plus two lenses into a ten euro backpack...

    I treated myself to a 80-200mm 2.8!

I guess i'll have to get one, as my current lowpro bag is too small to hold all my stuff .. still think its a bit of a rip off having to pay nearly 10 times the price of a regular backpack , but as you say better than camera or lens taking a few possible fatal tumbles !

not decided yet. :-) Rather fancy a 300 2.8 L, but will probably be just as happy playing with a pair of socks :-(

depends who's wearing the socks at the time... wayhay :D

My 'regular' backpack is €300 ish and my lighter one is around €200. They are not camera backpacks at all, just travel/hiking/climbing ones.

When you venture into a specialised area like photography you are narrowing your market down and are not going to sell the same volumes....so the price unfortunately goes up.

If you consider you may have €3-4,000 of gear on your back at any one time you get increased peace of mind with a solidly built pack. In the great scheme of things a hundred ain't that much!

i treated myself to errr... nothing :( too busy buying for others. I gotta stop being so bloody generous. Although Santa did make a stop to the local photo store so maybe my generosity to others will pay off.

I just opened one christmas pressie though... errrr looks like im growing up, I got a coffee machine. :S nice smell though

    :D
    Socks, not stockings :-)

As to the slingshot, I've a 200. I only use it when I'm carrying very little gear as it only works well when it's light. But for access, ease of use etc. brilliant. Nothing to touch it. Just dont overload it. Over a certain weight, a backpack is much more comfortable.

Wouldn't pay that much , in fact i am going to wait and see if the prices drop in the post Christmas sales !
The one i like is currently around the 100 euro mark !

But begining to hate my shoulder bag, apart from holding very little , it is kind of awkward carrying around -- so i will invest :(

I've a micro trekker bag I never use ,if there is someone who is just starting and needs a bag . They can have the bag .
It's a tad girly ,as it's very petite . I bought it because it was so small ,but i just never get to use it.

I bought a Lowepro Compudaypack last week - €89. This is my first backpack for cameras and stuff, and while I can't compare, I am really happy with it! It fits my laptop, 400D and all accessories (kit lens, 50mm 1.8, spare batteries, charger etc, and has space for another three similar sized lenses), and there is yet another compartment that will fit a lot more stuff (3 or 4 chunky hardbacks, to give you an idea, and other bits and bots too). What I didn't know was that the central partition that divides the top compartment and the camera part can also be taken out, and that the entire thing can be used as just a laptop backpack with loads of room for everyday stuff - great for 1-3 day work trips! Delighted!!

Picked up my Lowepro about a year ago for €100 when I decided two bodies 2 and 2 bags was just too much and it's all worked out quite well.

Sorry about all the detail done this up a while ago for insurance reasons.
