Sqeeking clutch on last few millimetres of travel upwards.

Car is Mitsubishi Carisma (not mine!). Any mechanically-minded people have ideas on cause/possible solution?

is it coming from the pedal or under the bonnet?

Eh...more from the pedal. The noise is inside the car rather than under the bonnet.

get a torch and some wd40, get a good look at the clutch pedal assembly and spray some wd40 up at it's pivot, and also at the spring - at the top, where it touch's the pedal and firewall.
then give it a few pumps, (engine off) and if it needs more, give it to it!

Trace where the clutch slave cylinder meets the gearbox. Pull back the rubber boot and put a bit of grease on the pivot/fork.

You could need a new clutch cable they are cheap about e10. The noise or squeaking you hear is probably the cable starting to fray. It happened to meh! .

Could be the altenator belt slipping

Being a recent Jap car, it's very unlikely it has a clutch cable. See my advice above.
