    in limerick over something so stupid. After ringing both occasionally as told, i got the following replies;

Monday i rang, "sorry no wii's delivery maybe later in the week"
Tuesday i rang "sorry no wii's delivery maybe later in the week"
Today i rang " sorry they are all sold out, we got a delivery yesterday, we wont have anymore until after christmas"

I expected a lot more from the Gamestop in the parkway at least, as i cant honestly keep track of the amount of business i have given them over the years. I always go there as its the quickest to get too without going into the city or taking the bypass to the cresent. anyway they always remember me in store. most recently i purchased a DS lite with 9 or so games easily totalling over €500. i kind of expected to be looked after with a wii and the numerous games i always buy on getting a new console

I suppose my best chance of getting one was with the store that would get the most, being the one in the cresent but it was the exact same story there

Suffice to say ill be heading to argos in the new year for my wii, if i still want one then, and then will head over to smyths for my games.

Its a somewhat dissapointing christmas, afterall :(

    Did you preorder?

You had very very very slim hopes of getting one before christmas without a preorder. No point in blaming gamestop..

They werent taking any preorders for that shipment, it was first come first serve.

i rang as directed for a good chance to get my hands on one. i rang on the day they got a shipment and was told nothing about it. i wasnt told until the day after.

There's no possible way the could have gotten an order after you rang, is there? Surely not...

well it would of been impossible to get one at the cresent, that place is so packed in the run up to x mass you can barely walk (its about the size of liffey valley in dublin maybe bigger so imagine that and not being able to move)

to be honest its just business and i know it sucks but blaming it on the Gamestops in limerick is pointless (im sure if it was in tipp it would be grand... only joking)

The numbers of consoles coming in versus the number of folk hunting them down would surely mean you would have to be there nearly on the spot to obtain one, no point in whining about not getting one because they didn't tell you the shipment had come in, I'm sure no one was trying to trick you.
The shipment probably came in after you called and were simply sold in the minutes after they were placed on the shelves.
In my experience the units don't even get that far and are sold as soon as the boxes arrive and the customers in store get a sniff of the hard to get console.
Don't go placing your faith in Argos or Smyths to ahve your best interests at heart, they are just as mercenary as the rest.

^^ ah so it seems all the 2nd shipments are coming in
though you'll have to be very quick to get one

ah it doesnt matter now, i was posting out of frustration and anger, when i actually stop to think about it, im thinking its not worth the hassle. the only game that would interest me is zelda which has some minor issues with the responsiveness of controls and a major issue with the camera angles.

Still would have been nice to get one in time for christmas holidays to really get into zelda over my free leisure time and to have gotten a first hand experience for myself

I also don't deal with Gamestop.
I have probably bought a total of three things from them and will never bother crossing their doorway again.

I went in there to buy Conker Live and Reloaded for the X-Box.
They asked me new or pre-owned, I said new.
They handed me the display box and stuck the disc in.
I opened the box and took out the disc to look underneath it....
    covered in scratches.

I walked back up to the guy and said, "I just bought this game there two seconds ago and I asked for brand new" I took the disc out of the box and showed it to him and said "There is no way in hell that's brand new"

He then went on to say "No man, that's brand new, I wouldn't bull**** you.
It's just we use the boxes as display boxes and we keep them in these sleeves so it's just marking from them"

I then looked at the box. There was marking all over it in red pen.
I just said "look I want my money back, I'll take my business down to GAME who will give me a brand new mint condition disc in a sealed box."

And so I did.I got it new sealed and cheaper in GAME.
I never really liked Gamestop before but now I definitely won't be going there again.

I'm over 22 hours into the game, and have had no problems with either the camera angles or the control responsiveness, and if you read what the rest of people on boards are saying, I'm sure you'll find most people agreeing!

Reckon any problems he sees with Zelda are just because he has something in his way, namely the fact he doesn't have a Wii!
Nothing wrong with Zelda at all, I'm loving every minute of it.
Call Of Duty and Monkey Ball are pretty good too,

Love it when they say, "Yeah well I devoted hours and hours to trying to get a Wii but now I can't get one it's all a bit crap", yeah, right!

    True.

I devoted roughly 3 minutes putting my name down for a pre-order way back in October. People that didn't pre-order and didn't get a console have no-one but themselves to blame.

I took the "three minutes" in september and I'm still bloody waiting. It's not as simple as pre-order then you'll defo get one on launch. There are a million internet stories to back that up. Basically nintendo didn't deliver on their promise of shelves spilling with wiis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Seriously? Where had you pre-ordered?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Karmafaerie

Pre-ordered in October and got mine in Game in Limerick no problem.
Zelda is great, it's managed to get me through the time my 360 has been getting repaired almost single handedly!:)
Monkey Ball is fun, and Red Steel, while a bit annoying at first, grows on you.
Give it a year and some great games will be out on the Wii, but unfortunately, a year after that and the low tech will really start to show its age compared to the 360 and the PS3.

CHIPs Edinburgh. They received nothing last week so they had Launch allocation and 6 on tuesday. Phoning up in a few to find out if theres anything in today. Flying home tomorrow night so last chance is Game doing a first come first served on friday morning. Apparently Woolworths, Currys and similar have all done the same with deliverys just not arriving.

Agreed. I've had no problems whatsoever with either of these. It's the best thing ever.

Although i do have sympathy for slade x. I'd at least expect to be told if they were getting a delivery in that day (although i realise the staff mightn't have known). It's just frustrating.

Don't lose all hope, though, cos they seem to be popping up in different stores with no warning!

While i'm at it, i preorderd mine at Gamestop and had no problems. Except the lack of component cable, but everywhere has that problem.

Not really the Gamestop staff's fault though is it, they obviously didn't know if/when they'd be getting a shipment in.

Had no problem getting mine, preordered early September in Smyths. I know at least 4 people that have gotten Wiis in the last week or so with no pre-orders. Just keep checking with stores to see if they have any in, and if you know Smyths have units in for pre-order, find out which day they release those (because people didn't come in to get them) and queue in the morning.

No point bashing Zelda because you didn't get a Wii though, I'm sure it's frustrating, but don't take it out on an awesome game.

don't mean to rub salt in your wounds OP but I got one on tuesday in GameStop in the crescent with no pre-order

They probably didn't know it was coming in that day. Most deliveries are just surprises when they show up. It's unfair since staff are telling everyone everything they know and being asked by literally hundreds of people every day. Do you have any idea the patience it requires to smile and answer the same questions for 9 hours a day and all you get back is angry, sarcastic people? How is it our fault you didn't pre order or think to get it until the week before Christmas is probably one of the most tempting things to say when you're being given out to. It was luck if you got one, pure and simple. They were in short supply so it had to be first come first serve. Would you rather have had a preorder that you were let down with? The staff would probably have gotten in serious trouble trying to hold one for you.

I think you're being a little unfair on the staff as they are dealing with one of the busiest times of year along with having to explain the Wii situation to every second person that calls up. Had they called all of them there would have been thousands of names on that list and they would have been gone by the time the person arrived to try buy one.

Yeah, I can only imagine how hard it sucks to work in a gamestore at a console launch, let alone at a console launch, at Christmas!

Some people in the US (other forums) that work in gameshops said they're getting calls every few minutes asking if there are Wiis in stock.

Amen! In the exact same situation myself.

"When are you getting this in? Why don't you have it? Moan moan"

"It was there. For the last 6 months. It's Christmas week. Slap slap"

Preordered on the 8th of December? Wasn't that cutting it a bit fine? ;)

The guy complaining about the camera angles in Zelda doesn't have it or a Wii...

I pre ordered mine in Game in The Square on September 29th and was #12 then. And from what they told me that morning, they had received around 10 less Wiis than they had pre-orders...
