Lacie External HD Question

120GB & 80GB aren't a lot these days though keep in mind those are also 2.5" notebook hard drives inside though chassis.

I've seen those Lacie drives before reviewed nothing remarkable about them other than the small size and no need for power connection to work which is there selling point.

If you like the smaller physical size of the Porsche model go for it.

If your looking for something a bit faster with a lot more capacity then this WD My Book 320GB would be the one to go for (it does require a power connection though).

Personally i'd recommend the 250GB firewire400 WD My Book. Works out the same price as the 320GB USB2 version (or if you have the money and a compatible mobo get the firewire800 version ;))

I tend to transfer a lot of data at once (like 200gigs when formatting) and use the external drive as a stop gap. Waiting 30 minutes for this to complete with firewire400 and waiting an hour with USB2 makes all the difference.

I've had nothing but problems with LaCie units. Poor build quality and they tend to use hot and noisy drives.

Yeah I have 2 of the MyBook ones, just USB2 interface though. Cheap and I have had no problems, you can get them at Komplett.ie
