Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere but ....

AFAIR on one of the ninty sites they stated that 2000 WII points were going to be €20 on the WII shopping channel and in retail however in both Game and Smyths 2000 WII points are €24.99. Now I know that you can only buy 1000 (€10), 3000 (€30), and 5000 (€50) points on the shopping channel but for anyone with a CC why in gods name would you pay an extra fiver for the privalege of buying in a store?

Wii points bought over the net cost Nintendo only the price of processing your order. the Store-bought points come in a box which costs about 7p to manufacture, not to mention the points card inside and the little scratch panel on it. You're paying 5 quid for shipping, handling, storage and manufacturing of the packaging basically. And if you don't have a credit card you are effectively draped over a barrel and pre-lubed so you can't be too surprised if Game wander by and have a quick go on ya.

Then it is up to us to educate the kids whose parents have credit cards to buy online .......

oh and as for the VAT issue when you buy online the VAT is broken down on your receipt if I remember correctly.

!!! as above - €20 purchase government adds 21% VAT €20 + €4.20 I don't think anyone can reasonably accuse shops of ripping people off. But you can choose who you vote for in an election.

Yes but I think this is a case of the VAT can't be paid on something that physicaaly ain't there if you get what I mean??

Its odd but there are numerous thread around the net about it with explinations on them!!

HMV are selling the 2000 points for €40, which should be good enough to keep the anger going until next Christmas.

Holy s**t that is a total rip off and I'm sure that there are people who know no better that will buy them

In a way we should probably be grateful that for anyone who doesn't know you can buy the points online, there's a pretty good chance they won't have a clue what the points are for so they won't buy them, hopefully preventing HMV from sucking too many punters dry. €40? Jeeeeesus. If I brought that home and found that all I could get for all that money was a couple of decades-old snes games, I'd need a new front window and there'd have to be a whole new subsection on wiihaveaproblem.com

Holy fuppamoley, I never knew about that! (probably due to my local HMV having fupp all Wii stuff in stock.)

And I thought it was bad that Virgin were charging €29.99 for 2000 points and the same for a classic controller!

I got my second one from Smyths, €24.99, along with a classic controller, and got my first one along with my console from Game, same price, which isn't bad.

Used my Mammy's card today (with permission), only cost eight euro something before VAT and €10 after. Shock, Horror.
