Does anyone else get really annoyed at agency ads that don't mention the company or atleast the industry, or the precise type of work is involved.
The descriptions are so vague you don't know whether to apply for the job or not, although I guess if you that determined you will spend the time chasing the agencies and giving them all your info before they'll give you any clue about the job. (I recently had to ask the agency person three times the simple question of what time the jobs started/finished at while she kept waffling on and asking me for my personal infomation.)

No I know some agencies what to make sure you don't go direct to he company, or give info to their competiters but there is huge info gap when doing this.

but hey lets screw with em a little
    Try this one

Often it's easy to tell who the employer is
For instance, an employer posts a job on a recruitment website.

Then maybe 2 or 3 agencies have the same job. In less than 5 minutes you can compare the job specs and find out the employer is. You can search by employer and then by agency on some websites.

The one I'm most familiar with is irishjobs.ie

    yes this drives me crazy...

a typical recruitment agency doesnt even specify the industry of the job advertised which is madness, I mean thats one of the most important bits of information needed in the advertisement

9 out of 10 times they lie about the renumeration, only to find out when you meet the employer the salary is much lower or the recruiter included the bonus when quoting the base salary

got to shout out BMS sales who I recently met, the guy was a total moron, he spent 20 mins of a 30 min interview asking me about a part time job I had and didnt ask anything about my education and recent employment, what a retard

they are worse then used car salesmen, i really detest every second of dealing with them

I'd swear some agencies make up job listings purely to get your CV / details.

In the last 6 months or so Irish Jobs are starting to punish agencies who do this or agencies who obviously have the same job posted more then once.

Just curious - how do you "punish" your customers?

They beat them with a stick..

No, they would ban them from the site. probably get a couple of warnings first and then banned. or else report them to the recruitment federation.

Agencies put up jobs 'on spec' - purely CV gathering.
They also scour papers and magazines and industry/company websites to see if they are advertising for jobs. Then they advertise for the same job and if a punter applies to the agency for that job, the agency sends off the CV to the company.
Some companies refuse to use agencies and if this is the case and you've sent your CV to an agency giving them free will over your CV and who to send it to, and to a company, the company wont bother proceed further.

The wisest thing to do when looking for a job is to go to the company first - scour the yellow pages, ring company after company, look at company websites and even send off CV's to companies even if you aren't sure they're hiring.

Avoid agencies like the plague is my advice.

If you have a really bad experience with an agency, dont be afraid to report them to the recruitment federation. they have a strict code of ethics which they should be sticking to (obviously most don't) - but if enough ppl complain them then they will get in trouble
