Ive installed bit torrent several times over the last number of weeks in the hope that the problem is due to the installation but it seems to install fine without any error messages being displayed. When installation is completed and I double click on the bittorrent icon the application doesnt open no matter how long I wait.I run windows xp pro just incase anyone is wondering.
Could someone give me a solution to the problem?
    thanks alot

What BitTorrent application is it, or is it the official "BitTorrent" client?

Does a bittorrent process appear in the process list if your Task Manager?

Right if you have the nvidia firewall hardly any torrent clients will work, as they detect the firewall and notify you that it wont work, or that it will use huge ammount of system resources. Try azereus, Its java based and much more powerfull them almost every other torrent client out there.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but I've been having a problem myself.

It has only started in the past month or so, but every time I load up my Torrent client, be it Azureus/uTorrent, it loads up alright, downloads properly for an hour or two, then my entire internet connection drops for 10-12 hours. Its a bit bizarre, any thoughts?

    I'm with IBB 2mb Breeze.

Just my experience (over a week and three different routers) but some routers get overloaded, as bitorrent clients tend to have a lot of open connections which can cause the router/modem to lock up.
May not be your issue but just thought I would mention it.

Happens a lot. Open it from without your start menu.

If you download a torrent link, don't try to click the link to run it, always run from start menu. It doesn't work from the desktop icon for some reason.

    Hope that helps.

If you have an nVidia firewall then format and start again. Seriously, It caused me inumerable hours of annoyance with everything from bittorrent to my wireless network. It was a nightmare to un-uninstall completly so I had to re-format.

I had no problems removing it myself.

Check the Broadband forum, it seems there is a good chance that IBB are port shaping.

Be careful that you are not opening too many connections to others.

In uTorrent go to Preferences -> Bittorrent

    My Global no. is 210
Max number per torrent is 70

Then I never download/upload more than two at a time. Ive a 2mb/256k
    connection.

If I go above these, my firewall used to cut off my internet for hours. I dont
use a firewall anymore but when I did I stuck to limiting my connections.

When your internet does fail, did you try restart the PC?

I hope its not IBB giving you this problem...

He has 2mb upload so that is not the problem. In general I would have said put more in.

2mb/2mb makes a huge difference with torrents. I used to run between 5 and 8 at once with my connection maxed out.

Sound like either a memory leak, which happens with some bad firewalls like the onboard Nvidia nforce one.

When your internet does fail, did you try restart the PC?

Besides a renew of a fixed ip address or the stopping of a memory leak what good is this going to do. It doesnt help the problem just avoids it.
I hope its not IBB giving you this problem...

See above post and google port shaping. People on IBB are starting to show the signs of it. I have had 3 people in the last week unable to use Vpn because the connection over those ports has slowed to a crawl.

MY settings were 600 and 100, can't remember if I set them myself or not. I'll give it another shot later, don't want to risk losing the connection this evening with some football on later. Thanks!

Yeah, the connection stays down regardless of whether or not I restart the PC.
