Online Retailers

European ones, Topvision and Techdirekt seem great, but even their prices come nowhere close to US ones

    I *really* fancy this TV
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=2500&A=details&Q=&sku=435172&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

$1700, which translates to around about €1300. topvision have it for over €2000 not inc delivery etc., I know how weak the dollar is but that's a huuuge price difference.

So I'm trying to find out if there are any other online retailers in Europe who might come closer to the US price. Any tips?

Well don't forget about customs, then the shipping costs from the U.S. NTSC system and 110v. Basically not suitable for Europe. Probably work out cheaper buying in the E.U.

LOL check out the shipping costs $510.

i'm not looking to get the US tv, just a company offering the same series for what would seem a more reasonable price. the mark up doesn't seem justifiable.

actually, using that tv here would be no issue at all these days.

Maybe not on the picture end of things but you could encounter problems getting sound. You could also try www.directtvs.co.uk Prices ain't too bad.

40" HDTV Sammy for £921=€1,374. Not exact same model though.

see, the US tv is 1980 x 1080 res, or whatever, which is sadly lot more than 1,300 over here.
i'm sure i'll find it though!

The reason the US is cheaper than Europe is because it is one huge homogeneous market. So the manufacturers price aggressively to keep market share and the retailers buy in bigger bulk so the price offered to the consumer is often much lower than in Europe.
So as the biggest single TV market in the world it has economies of scale that the EU can still not match! It has a good cheap delivery/courier infrastructure and huge retailers. The still fragmented EU market has differing economies, TV broadcast standards, different customs/VAT rates.

So comparing prices is just not a simple apples to apples comparison!

    Capitalism at it's finest!

But we are getting there - although as a little island in the Atlantic we have buigger hurdles to clear!

    Also,

I read in todays paper that Irish Customs are targeting large internet purchases coming in from outside the EU.

Has anybody used this site www.directtvs.co.uk? Looking at buying from it but would like to hear from some satisified customers first

There are plenty of tv's that do full 1080p available on the european market. Toshiba, Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Goodmans all have them. Check out avforums.com for reviews on them.

Most of the UK online retailers I'v come across deliver to the UK only.
Is there a list of the better UK suppliers that ship to the Republic of Ireland.
I know that http://www.directtvs.co.uk/ deal with Ireland.
So please let's have any that Boards.ie members have dealt with and your views
    Thank you.

    Regards

    Good Boy :)
