Sky HD "channel" Issue

Not sure if anyone else has experience of this, but I've just got a new Sony Bravia HD tv & sky HD box.

Whereas on the sky+ box, the scart connection would over-ride any rf channels - ie, the minute you press the 'sky' button if appears on screen - to get sky HD, I have to press a button on the remote to get to an HDMI channel.

IF I then press the tv guide button - it takes me back to a the standard scart connected channel & I have to re-press the remote button to get the HD channel back.

I saw a blog on another site that implies only Panasonic have this issue sorted, but I'd have 'expected' an HD connection to take priority.

    Any Ideas ??

I think the idea is you only use the HDMI :)

If you have variety pack why would you WANT an RF channel on LCD or Plasma or HD TV? No Widescreen and the LCD/Plasma accentuate Composite PAL analogue artifiacts and from Analogue source the noise is either accentuated or the picture blurred.

He's not connected via RF though, but Scart and HDMI.

Andip, how about going into Services menu, then System Setup, then Picture Settings. In there, turn Scart Control off. That should stop Scart lead controlling the TV. But, as watty said, I think Sky intend that you only use HDMI, and not Scart at all. Anyway, turning Scart Control off should fix the channel-changing problem if you want to leave the Scart in the TV.

With many of these HD TV's, I can't understand why the only way to access HDMI channel is to repeatedly press AV button. It's such a nuisance.

Thanks - I'm not using RF at all & only use scart to connect a DVD & video recorder.

I'll try turning the scart control off & see what that does.

Ideally I just want the tv to come on to the HD channel when I switch it on & then give me the option of pressing AV to get the scart channels - call me lazy, but when I've just shelled out for a new tv & HD box - I don't expect to have to keep pressing the AV button to get HD.

    Thanks for the help

The User Interface on MANY brands I have looked at is not Granny Friendly. My satellite receiver is simpler.

Of course you need SCART for VHS / DVD etc.

And why has NO TV I have ever seen got simply the option on remote to toggle between 4:3 & 16:9 instead of all these poxy zooms too. My dad is tortured trying to not chop off subtitles on DVDs. There seem to be too many DVD players & Sat recievers that don't do WS S on the SCART and TVs that do 4:3 & WS that insist on doing the "wrong" mode or wierd zooms/crops.

Don't connect SCART from Sky HD box to TV at all.

My panasonic lets me select which source is used when first turned on ( hdmi 1 / 2 ,scart 1 / 2,and rf.)
its in the set up menu.

Yah as I said - Panasonic seem to be the only ones in the 21st century !!

I have a similar setup, with Sony Bravia and Sky HD, I did not think of trying to switch off the scart control in set up which I will try later.

What I currently do is when you turn on the TV if you press the help button on the sky remote it switchs straight to the HDMI channel (as long as the DVD is not powered on) This saves a few button presses but is still not the ideal answer.
(Don't forget to then press the sky button before keying in a channel number or the tv will switch to rf again.)

hello there, another Bravia/Sky HD user, with my TV I can skip unused AV inputs which gets you to the HDMI connection quicker, also my TV selects the last known AV input which for me is HDMI because all I watch is Sky via HDMI and DVD via same HDMI connection (have a switcher).
I'd say if you look in your Bravia options you could do as above

I have noticed that if you power up your Bravia, and press AV, it'll go to the last used AV channel.

I remember some WEGA sets had an option of allocating a channel number to the AV channels, eg 9 for AV2. Didn't see that option on the Bravia though I haven't searched the menu much, apart from tuning them in.
